Okay, Christmas is here, and we're ready to learn that receiving is so much better than giving, 'cause you get stuff!
Just kidding. Or am I? I am. I think?
So let's start a thread on the best Christmas/seasonal present you got, and also the weirdest.
So far, the two weirdest presents I've received would be a book on funeral sermons (from my pastor) and a framed poster for Son of the Mask (from one of my kids).

This one wasn't actually mine, but a guy I used to swim with back in college received a burial plot from his parents one Christmas. No lie. Because, quote, "It was on sale." Yeah.
And as an addendum to my ongoing struggle to have my friend who lost the original buy me a new copy of The Critic DVD, Lady Luck finally got sick of the whole thing and just bought it for me herself as an early Christmas present. Not the outcome I would have anticipated, but at least I finally have it back. It stinks!

I just have to say that my brother gives me a new DVD every time a present-buying occasion comes around. Not a big deal, but it's always something that he liked a lot... but that the rest of the world shunned. That's why classics like The Day After Tomorrow, and Cats and Dogs find their way into our collection. Oh, and he did buy me Pearl Harbor, but I returned it... I was waiting for the extended edition to come out (or so I said). I need to do a better job of returning movies I have no interest in... either that, or force Lissa to review them. I think the movie I'm getting this year is Madagascar. I know this because he tried to discretely ask me about the movie, but I could see through him

Yay... Arrested Development season 2, simpsons season 6, Indiana Jones trilogy and (for little reason) Just One of the Guys... PLUS my darling wife got me an awesome 5.1 surround sound speaker setup for the TV. I'm in viewer heaven. If only I had time.
Oh, and Serenity got far more enjoyable to watch the second time around, for some reason. Go, and watch it!

I too received the Indy trilogy, as well as a copy of Scrooged--one of only two Christmas movies that can double as Halloween movies--and, among other fun oddities, one of those air purifier thingies.
The area where I live is lousy with all manner of flora and their various microscopic sheddings, so I'm hoping this little dude will let me not have to wake up with a head full of crud every morning.
And if nothing else, it functions well as a white noise machine.

wake up with a head full of crud In retrospect, this might not be such a bad thing, so long as the Cafe is here for me to dump it out on. Hardy har!

As far as presents go got a few retro Jim Henson Gems: First season of Muppet Show and Fraggle Rock. I must admit that I was very surprised to see how much some of the muppets had changed since their first creation.

I surprised Lissa with Muppets season 1 (she didn't know it was out), and we've been working through it. I definitely agree with you - seeing some of the muppets in season 1 really threw me for a loop, as they've changed soooo much. I hope they release some of the later seasons; the only other option is to find the Time-Life discs on ebay.

I got my weirdest gift this year actually. A box full of meat (it's like being in Scrooged). What makes it weird though is that I don't really like meat, which the givers know. I'm not really surprised, they always give me something incredibly strange.

I got Serenity (Boo hissss; review upcoming) and a SUBSCRIPTION TO THE JOURNAL OF THE AMERICAN ARACHNOLOGY SOCIETY!!!!!!!! YAY!!!!!!!! I'd already have an Amblypygus avatar, but they don't translate well into square frames.
I also got a knockoff plastic lightsaber which, when you extend the collapsible blade, makes a sound like "Boing!"
I'm guessing that's not the effect the makers intended originally.

Coming soon: Shalen's feature article "Why Arachnology and Archaeology are Not Similar in Any Way Whatsoever." There will be side notes on why the people who designed Warcraft III realize that pandas are endangered, but apparently do not realize they are not bears.

Coming soon: Shalen's feature article "Why Arachnology and Archaeology are Not Similar in Any Way Whatsoever." Wait, you mean that report I wrote about the ancient race of spider people who build the pyramids...? ...huh. Well, that explains a lot. -D
