So, how is it that all the little tidbits and rumors regarding this have slipped under our collective Forum Radar? I read something off FARK saying that Sam Rockwell is on board to play Zaphod Beeblebrox. My gut tells me that a Hitchhiker's movie is Doomed. But I guess that now that we have an Epic LOTR trilogy, anything seems possible. I just fear the possibility of Good Charlotte, Sum41, or some backstreet boy's godawful voice coming in loud and clear over top of everyone's favorite Sci-Fi comedy series. There's so many ways this could be done wrong...

I heard about it years ago, and that Nicholas Cage was interested in playing everyone's favorite dim-witted, two-headed president, but after Douglass Adams' death I just assumed the project fell through.
There's a political joke in there I'm sure.

Some casting has been officially announced.
Arthut Dent = Martin Freeman (Lesser known Brit actor was was in "Love Actually") Ford Prefect = Mos Def Trillian = Zooey Deschanel (Yes! Damn straight!)
They had offered Zaphod to Robert Downey Jr. but he turned it down for a variety of reasons. I think Sam Rockwell would be a great pick, though.

I think Bruce Campbell would be a good Zaphod. But then I think Bruce would be good in every movie role.
I also think Mos Def has no business as Ford. And not cause he's black. It's cause he's a rapper, from Brooklyn. If they want a black guy to play Ford. I think Orlando Jones would be a better choice.
I'm also a little worried about the director, Garth Jennings. This is his first movie. You'd think the execs would hire someone with a little more experience to handle something this big.

The 7-Up guy? No way. Mos Def has been doing lots of plays, off Broadway and in London, and he has a pretty good rep going for him. I have faith. Way more than the effing 7-Up guy.

Yeah, Orlando Jones is the suck, yo. He's more of an idiotic slapstick flavor of the month guy. I remember thinking mos def was pretty cool. Hmm. Maybe I shouldn't drink and post.

I'd actually have preferred Downey Jr to Rockwell for Zaphod, but I'm still happy with Sam.
Martin Freeman was the salesman on The Office, if I'm not mistaken? If so, that's a good little choice, as far as I'm concerned.

Sorry, I can't see Mos Def as Ford Prefect. It just doesn't work for me. But ya never know. It could work.

I don't know if you know which 7-Up guy I am talking about. Orlando Jones was the original guy. The new one is called Godfrey. He sucks.
But either way I still think he would be good. Sure he is a comedic actor but he did a couple roles that weren't so comedic. Vox in Time Machine and Dr. Lee in Drumline come to mind. Sure those weren't the best movies but he wasn't slapstick.
Of course that's just my opinion. I could be wrong.

Don't get me wrong, I love Zooey Deschancel(in a somewhat unhealthy way), but isn't Trillian supposed to be somewhat exotic looking? Granted "Trish McMillan" isn't the most exotic name, but I believe her initial description has her appearance as somewhat Middle-Eastern or perhaps Latin.
Oh well, it's a minor change. I can totally dig Rockwell as Zaphod. I don't really know what to expect from Mos Def, and I've never seen Martin Freeman in anything and I'd prefer Arthur to be played by someone I don't know. I also really wish I knew the guy who was playing Marvin. They need a young-Dustin Hoffman type for him, I think. Not real young, but younger than DH.

Yeah, Orlando Jones is the suck, yo. You have all forgot about Office Space. When he was the door-to-door ex-crack-dealer-magazine-salesman-who-was-really-a-out-of-work-programmer. *hangs head in shame*

I can't help thinking that Jeff Goldblum has to have a role in this movie somewhere.
His eccentric intelligence would be perfect for this movie, but I just can't see where.
And does anybody have opinions on casting the ship's computer, Eddie? I'm not sure if the book mentions if it has a gender, but I interpreted it as a female voice. I'm not a huge fan of hers, but Melissa Joan Hart could totally nail the overly-chipper attitude.
