Hey One & All! I was reading through the reviews for "Lost in Translation" and have to say that it's not the first time I've seen a drama mis-billed as a Comedy. When I was working at Rogers Video (The Canadian equivalent to Blockbuster) I rented "The Big Kahuna" which was also listed as a Comedy. It wasn't a bad movie, it just wasn't funny. This I find can give a movie an unecessarily negative review since likely the person is not in a mood for drama. So, as a public service to the people on this board can anyone else mention movies that have been mis-billed in the wrong genre? Not necessarily a comedy/drama mix up but that seems to be the worst offender in my books. MA

I once got my mom to watch Delicatessen by telling her it was a romantic comedy. She apparently thinks I lied.

When I was working at Rogers Video (The Canadian equivalent to Blockbuster) Funny. I thought the Canadian equivalent to Blockbuster was Blockbuster. Y'know, seeing as they're here, and everything. Did anyone else miss the photage of Bertuzzi snagging Moores wallet after the mugging? Ah, shaddup. Let's see. Mislabeled comedies... oh man, I've got one on the tip of my tongue... crap. I gotta go do some research...

But if Blockbusters were the Canadian equivalent to Rogers than Rogers should have stores open in the US.
But of course we know this will only be a matter of time BWAHAHAHAHAHA!

I remember once asking my folks to tape "A Clockwork Orange", because I thought it was a comedy. I had never seen it, but heard that it was the movie to watch, if you were cool.
You should have seen the look on my dad's face when he handed off the video... his only comment was something along the lines of "I didn't understand that one". ;D

There's an indie film floating around called "Spanking the Monkey." Found it in the video shop under the comedy section, the movie tagline seemed to suggest that it was a comedy... but I think it was more of a drama with a couple of funny bits. I don't think it could be labelled a black comedy either. It's not what you think it's about either. Far worse.

Actually, I recall my mom telling me about "Spanking the Monkey" when she watched it late one night on premium cable when I was...well...I don't remember what the hell I was doing, since I used to stay up late and watch movies with her when I was younger. Anyway, She was also appeared quite horrified by the plot of this movie (or, at least, where the movie was going) when she told me about it. I won't go into it either, and I've never had any desire to see this film, but let's just say I'm glad I didn't stay up to watch this one with my mom. That's all I'll say...
And mom and I are into off-beat and not-entirely-tasteful movies. I remember when we went to go see Natural Born Killers and we were the only two people in the theatre laughing at any of it.

I've frequently seen both "Waking Life" and "The Man who Wasn't There" shelved as comedies at rental places. And um, yeah, they so aren't.

Ah, Waking Life. The infamous Lost Review of PoolMan.
Madler and I watched Waking Life a few months ago. I think we came to the consensus that while it was an interesting concept, it didn't hold, and we were both pretty much bored out of our skulls. I wrote an entire review for it, a LONG one, too (not a lot of viotrol, though), and right before it was to be sent off to Justin...
BOOF. The email client crashes. With no way to reclaim the previous hour's worth of work, I curse a bit, and then resign the review to the ether. I sure didn't enjoy the movie enough to write the review twice.
So. Getting back to the point. Yes. Waking Life. Not funny. Billed as funny. Bad.

You write your reviews in the e-mail client? Why not use a text editor so you can have your master copy saved independently on your hard drive?
