"They want to move away from the traditional image of James Bond - the older, suave gentleman - and believe a younger, trendier actor will attract new fans."
So do they want XXX or Agent Cody Banks? I've gone off before on tirades against the direction they're taking my beloved franchise, so I won't do it again. Instead, I'll just leave it at: Shame on you, Hollywood. I'm glad that 'LAND' fell off the end of your sign.
Al RIP Barbara Broccoli

What? heheheheh...hahaha...HAHAHAHAHA!! Sorry, I can't see him as the next Bond. He may be considered sexy, but he's not sexy in the way the James Bond character is. Hopefully this is just another weird rumour, like that one where they wanted Bloom to portray Grenouille in the adaptation of Perfume (bad choice in my opinion). BTW I think Hugh Jackman would make an excellent Bond.

I agree. Orlando Bloom as Bond is just WRONG. I'm not a Bond fan at all, but he just does not have the sophistication, and that's a lot of Bond's appeal.
Besides, I can't see him looking that great in a tux.

He's a little too effeminate. Can you picture him seducing a buxom Bond girl?
Now that I think about it, I wish I could remember what he was like in Ned Kelly (it was released here in Australia a year ago). He had facial hair and slept with Rachel Griffith. And something tells me his acting impressed me (could be wrong). Still don't think he could pass as Bond though.

I just don't want any actor I like to be Bond. Because their time will be sucked up into doing that role and they'll be forever pegged for that. So don't take my Hugh away from me.

I never thought of that. Good point.

Since someone brought up Orlando Bloom...
Did anyone else think that he looked incredibly young in the TROY trailer? He looked like he was...I don't know how old, but a hell of a lot younger than he really is! It was rather disconcerting, actually.

I have a couple girls in my junior high youth group who really, really, really, REALLY like Mr. Bloom. As in, they're legally changing their middle names to Legolas and all that.
So I have a bit of fun with them by proclaiming various facts about Orlando with the full weight of Movie Critic Authority. So far, I've used:
* Did you know Orlando Bloom is actually 5 foot 2? Yeah, they digitally enlarge him on the screen. * He's not American you know. He came from an obscure tribe in central Africa. Why is he white? Well, he's actually black, but he's a perfect albino. * He's the most famous pygmy actor from Africa. He used to appear on a soap opera over there, co-starring with a goat. * He's 4 foot 7. It's true. They had to have him standing on a stepladder every time he had a scene with Kiera Knightley in Pirates of the Carribean. * I hear he only dates goats. Sorry girls. * He actually used to be the King of Africa, the first and only albino pygmy king they've ever had, but he gave it all up to follow his dream of acting in Hollywood. He's also 47 years old. * 3 foot 9. Yeah. In his elf scenes, he was so short they just hired an acrobat and digitally inserted his face on the acrobat. He's also fully bald; that was just a wig.

*LOL at Head Mutant* ;D
I kinda feel sorry for him, he has millions of psycho girls that would rip him apart if they had the chance. I'm not a massive fan myself, but he keeps appearing in really good movies (with the exception of Ned Kelly).
Incidentally, I've met his cousin. Supposedly.

I dunno. He has this tone of voice...kinda gravelly voice, that just doesn't speak Bond to me. But Ewan Mcgregor maybe? I dunno. Its tough coming up with a new Bond.

What IS it with junior high girls and Orlando Bloom? Is it just he looks very non-threatening? My girls drool over him too. Couldn't pay me to be him!

That's what I love about bond ... you never know who is a good bond until you've seen them as bond. Roger Moore? Peirce Brosnan? How many people thought they would be good/okay bonds?

Well, Brosnan had the whole Remington Steele thing that made people point and holler like they belonged in 2001, but you're right. Harry Salzman and Cubby Broccoli nearly lost their financial backing for Dr. No when they sprang Sean Connery on the investors.

I remember when Leonardo DiCaprio was all popular after Titanic, and there was the thought that he was particularly attractive to junior high aged girls because he wasn't so masculine that he was "threatening". edited to add--I want Clive Owen to be the next Bond! After his BMW shorts, I think he's got that combination of suave charm and slightly cynical attitude.
