I hereby proclaim tomorrow, Saturday, Sept 23, as Lord of the Rings Day. I make this proclamation on the basis that me and a couple of buddies (including the inimitable Darth Madler) are going to watch all three Extended Editions of the LotR series in one go.
We're starting at 9am, breaking for lunch after Fellowship, visiting a famous local toystore after Two Towers, and will probably wrap Return of the King up at around 11 pm.
Oh, it will be glorious.
Any suggestions for surviving marathons like this? I'm going back to read Justin's article, we'll see if that helps. Plus, we're deliberately breaking up the day with little things to do so we're off our butts at least every once in a while.

Don't get so drunk that you pass out during Faramir's doomed charge. Ah, Geekfest. I remember (most of) you fondly!!!!

Breaking it up helps. Even one of those movies is like a marathon unto itself.
Milk drinking games or other games you can play related to the film are a good idea.

Well, we did break it up. We stopped for a BBQ lunch after Fellowship, and we left the house entirely to go to a toy store/museum just before the battle at Helm's Deep. All told, with the breaks in, it was a fourteen hour day. Whew!
I would highly recommend watching the movies this way, though. If you have the time and energy, it's a GREAT way to see it as the "single whole story" it really is instead of the fragmented way most people usually watch it. Incredible.

Oh, the memories... I can still hear Lissa repeatedly stating that Faramir was SO HOT... next time we keep the booze from her!

Sure, sure... but did you watch the Rankin-Bass version of The Hobbit first? Or drink your body weight in Yuengling while watching? That's what I thought. Wuss. -D

Oh, and don't forget to have plenty of meade on hand. Washes down the Yuengling quite well...

Duckie? Is that you? Hail, the wandering hero! It's been an age!
And stop calling me wuss. There might not have been heavy drinking, but there WERE three men eating Madler's bean dip all day. Who's a tough guy now?

T'is me! Speaking of wandering... I've been through Detroit Metro airport at least half a dozen times in the past two months, and every time I come through security, I worry that I'm going to get bearhugged by some giant! Oh, and a bit of useless trivia, that fits in perfectly with this thread... Sept 22nd is officially Bilbo Baggins' birthday, so the timing of your geekfest (aka LOTR day) was appropriate. Did you toast him???

Just wait till you come through YVR. THAT will be some huggin'!
I actually didn't know of Bilbo's birthday. D'oh. Would have toasted if we'd known!

I did this once when the extended box set first came out. I dreamt of many orcs and hobbits that night.
