Can you believe this? Peter Jackson has been removed from The Hobbit. While the strength of the storytelling did indeed rely on Tolkein's work, I have serious issues with saying Jackson wasn't an integral part of the LotR films' success. A project of that size doesn't just happen, it needs an awful lot of effort to bring to life. Thoughts?

I think it's funny how the article says that what was really important was sticking to Tolkein's books more than the directing considering they also got rid of the writers/adapters Fran Walsh and Philippa Boyens. Not to mention Weta Workshop. And they just lost a lot of Peter Jackson and LotR movies fans. Good one, New Line.
I applaud Jackson for sticking to his guns.
I say Brett Ratner for the Hobbit. Who's with me?

This is indeed sad news for fans of Lord of the Rings. I know it's a slim chance, but let's all hope someone at New Line sees sense and humbly ask Peter Jackson to do the Hobbit after all.

Actually MGM made a statement that it's not yet over.Personally I hope they dump him. After the LotR success his head got way too big and the studios became way too lose and as a result we got the wonderful film, King Kong I can just picture it now: a half hour scene of Bilbo dancing on ice!

I was going to post this, under the title "New Line O.D.s on stupid pills". But I was too late.
Lo, it is very, very dumb. Dumb enough to disillusion.
Back to lurking I go.

Good, maybe now Jackson will have time to make a sequel to Bad Taste!

LOL! apparently I have a case of the mondays, or didn't sleep enough or something, cause i read this title as "Jackman yanked from the Hobbit"...and I thought...I support that, I'm not sure Wolverine would make such a good hobbit in the first place.
I would definately like to see ALan Lee back to work on the movie

Here's my thing: Jackson already made his opus. Nobody can steal that from him. Even if he got involved with The Hobbit, it's nowhere near the epic scope of LOTR, nor is it deserving of the two films people have mentioned. The Hobbit = kid's book, LOTR = adult's book.
It would be cool, but then again, I liked how the original Star Wars trilogy saw different directors/writers working on the project instead of solely Lucas. And the Harry Potter series definitely benifited from a changing of the guard.

True dat, J, but you just named two series whose primary directors were a little soft... Chris Columbus and George Lucas are not exactly high on my list of directors that can make creatively viable decisions while still making sure the franchise succeeds.
I think what Jackson did was make damn sure that the LotR movies would succeed financially BY making them loyal to fan expectations, not in spite of them. I would personally love to have the style and tone of the LotR movies carry on through the Hobbit.

What, no Hobbit musical?
<--- cannot conceive of The Hobbit without musical numbers.
