I wonder what you guys would think about some of the older movies--and I mean OLDER movies--that I really like. For example, Chaplin movies are much shorter than most people are used to today, and most of them are silent movies, but they are usually both hilarious and absorbing at the same time. I recommend:
MODERN TIMES (in my opinion, the opening fifteen minutes of this movie are some of the most hilarious in cinematic history) THE CIRCUS CITY LIGHTS THE TREASURE OF THE SIERRA MADRE (a great Bogart movie) IT HAPPENED ONE NIGHT (kind of cliched, but I still like it) MR. SMITH GOES TO WASHINGTON NOTORIOUS SUSPICION THE THIRD MAN BRINGING UP BABY (different humor from today, but it has its moments) THE GREAT DICTATOR......
That's all I can think of for now. As far as modern movies go, the guy who directed BATMAN BEGINS has a new movie out on DVD called THE PRESTIGE. It's dark, brooding, complicated, and super-interesting. I had to watch it twice to get the most out of it.
My regards, NAPOLEON
