Nicholson shouldn't have even played the Joker to begin with.
But I hope Ledger can do a good job. I'm actually excited for this one and it still has more than a year until it comes out. Sigh.

I was stoked for this movie until the Heath Ledger as the joker thing came about if anyone other than Nicholson should ever play the joker than it should be Crispin GloverWhile I'm comfortable with Ledger, I have to admit, that's a REALLY good idea.

Anyone else think Heath Ledger already kinda looks like the Joker? Maybe I'm just weird....

The only reason I am uncomfortable with Heath playing the Joker is that I have not seen him play psychotic, and because of all the hero roles he has played I cannot picture him as a psycho. Face Paint or not.
Crispin Glover on the other hand... that guy can be unhinged like a champ. But, I'm still curious to see if Mr. Ledger can pull off purple.

I'm excited for The Dark Knight also. You've got Heath Ledger as Joker and Aaron Eckhart as Harvey Dent. I read some news at www.darkhorizons.com that Emily Blunt is being considered to play Dr. Harleen Quinzel aka Harley Quinn. It'll be pretty awesome to see Harley Quinn in the movie.

Still not quite sure why Mark Hamill isn't playing the Joker. Maybe they thought he was just too darn old, but man, would it be great to hear that maniacal cackle in a live action movie.

Crispin Glover on the other hand... that guy can be unhinged like a champ. It would only be acting if he was playing someone who was sufficiently hinged.

he was moderately hinged in Back to the Future... except for the peeping, I guess Since Joker is taken, I nominate him for Riddler or Mad Hatter. I'd like to see some different villians emerge in this movie series.

You know, I love him in the comics... but God help me, I can't picture a Mad Hatter Batman movie.
*tries to envision it, fails*
Maybe Clayface.

But if anyone would be able to pull off the Hatter, it probably *would* be Crispin Glover. Good call, coco.

I really haven't read any of the comics, but isn't one of the main points about the Joker is that he's Batman's dark foil? That's one reason I like Heath Ledger over some of the other candidates mentioned--he's of the age to be Batman's peer.

I have trouble picturing the plot of a Batman movie with Mad Hatter, too, but as soon as I envisioned CG in the role, it clicked. He'd be sick! Does anyone know a guy? I wish that we could make this happen!

That's one reason I like Heath Ledger over some of the other candidates mentioned--he's of the age to be Batman's peer. Well, the "dark reflection" bit is true, but it's not so much an age or physical thing as a psychological thing. The Joker represents the polar opposite of Bats because Bruce is the world's biggest control freak. Ever since his parents were taken from him in a random crime (plunging his world into chaos), he's been obsessed with controlling everything, up to and including death... it's why he won't let anyone, even bad guys, die. The Joker represents chaos in its most extreme form- no order, no higher meaning, everything in life's a colossal joke. That's what makes them play off each other so well. That being said, while the Joker's origin isn't known definitively (he claims that he prefers the past to be "multiple choice"), the most likely candidate is that he was a failed comedian who went crazy after his wife and unborn child were killed in a household accident, and became convinced that everyone is "just one bad day" away from madness. So that origin WOULD put him at about the same age as Batman, magill, maybe just a few years older. -D

I know this is slightly off the current discussion but seriously have you seen ledger in the joker make up. I am totally not feeling it.

Sigh. It looks like when Anne of Green Gables tried to dye her hair raven black and it turned green. I'm trusting him still. The Joker's a dynamic character, after all - I don't think one still can capture him. (One caveat: check out that saucy smile. It's like he's seducing Julia Stiles in upper-class Seattle all over again.)
