Who all has seen it?
I personally think that it was the best of the adaptations so far. It had a lot of moments where I wanted to tear my hair out because of things they left out or changed (Snape's Pensieve moment being one of the worst)...but it also had a lot of moments where I was actually happy and wanted to see more.
And now it's made me even more excited for the last book!

Must... get... babysitter....
SOOOO want to see it! (OotP was actually my favorite of the books. And I've heard Umbridge is SO deliciously EVIL.)

OotP was actually my least favourite of the books, and yet, I'm really looking forward to seeing the movie tomorrow (if all goes according to plan).

All of my friends, my sister, and yea, even my loving wife bailed on seeing it tonight with me. No joy until Saturday. Bleah.
The funny thing is, I saw this thread title and initially thought, "Whoa, better steer clear to avoid spoilers!" And then I thought, "Wait...."

Definitely the best so far. The beginning and the ending had the same sort of break-your-neck jump cutting that annoyed me in the last one, but since they were battling to condense 870 pages, I can't complain too much. And hooray for Rupert Grint, finally not having to play Ron as a total tool!
BTW- they did change somewhat what happened to Sirius in the Dept of Mysteries, did they not?

I don't know whether they did or not. It has been a point of contention between the people I've talked to who have seen it. I think it was slightly changed, but that the same basic things happened.

I haven't seen it yet, but I've read enough reviews from friends to know that yes, they did.
SPOILERS, if you really care.
They actually specified the curse as an AK, and I believe I heard Sirius blocks it. In the books, the curse that hits him is unspecified, and I want to say I'm not sure there's the distinctive flash of green light- in fact, I believe the light is red. It's not clear if Sirius was killed by the curse that Bellatrix got him with, or by his fall through the curtain.
I'd like to believe it was the curse, because death by curtain is a really dumb death for a character I love so much.

On the subject of Sirius's death, I was rereading Half-Blood Prince last weekend and I noticed something I hadn't before. At Dumbledore's funeral, the narration mentions that Harry didn't know what to expect because he wasn't familiar with funerals, because with Sirius, there had been no body to bury. Like I said, I didn't even notice it the first time, but... why wasn't there a body? I guess I always interpreted the end of OotP as him getting hit by the curse, dying, and falling behind a curtain; I assumed when the battle was over, someone would have gone behind the curtain and retrieved his corpse. Are they implying that, you know... you can't go behind the curtain?

That's EXACTLY what JKR is implying. Rumor has it the Veil will be important in Deathly Hallows- a popular theory is either that Voldemort hid a Horcrux there or that's the safest way to destroy the Horcruxes. But yeah. You can't go behind the Veil. That's why Remus held Harry back- Harry was about to go and pull Sirius out, and Remus knew that Harry would die if he did that.

Harry Potter mode ON!!!
One largely held theory is that the Veil is actually a one-way portal to the land of the dead, hence it was in the place where the Ministry was studying death. Fact is we don't know what kind of spell actually hit Sirius, because JKR doesn't tell us the color of the spell, it could have been AK but it could have been a Stupefy spell just as well, so if he was still alive when he went through The Veil that might open some avenues.
I strongly believe and hope that Sirius will return in the 7th book in one form or another and help Harry, there are still some loose ends about his motorcycle and the two-way magic mirror he gave Harry. Plus the meaning behind his name and animagus form.
Anyway there's one more week to go and we'll find out.

I quite enjoyed it -- and I disliked the book very much. Angsty whiny Harry become somewhat angsty, but more grown-up Harry. Vast improvement. I think it's honestly the first time the movies have shown him to be a genuine hero who takes charge of his actions, instead of a downtrodden soul who only reacts at the very end to save his neck. And other necks. Chicken next! Differences between the book and movie

I really liked how OotP (the movie), unlike its predecessors, seemed to focus more on the drama of the story and the emotions of the characters than on the pretty imagery. That made it feel more like an actual movie than popcorn fluff.
I learned two things watching the movie:
- Luna Lovegood deserves her own movie. - I am Neville Longbottom. *sigh*

Aha! I make my triumphant return from the Land Where I Kind Of Constantly Forget To Visit The MRFH Forum! I loved this movie!!!! Phoenix was my least favorite book (though I still loved it, it just can't compare to how awesome Goblet was,) but it's my favorite movie! I was really impressed with it, especially since I'd never seen anything directed by Yates before and I think he works mostly in TV, so I wasn't expecting much. I saw it 6 times already! (4 of them were free, though. I love wroking at the movie theatre.) I was really bothered by the fact that they never mention Neville's role with the prophecy, though. And it was also sad that there was no Quidditch at all!! One of my all-time favorite subplots, especially for Ron and Ginny, and it was cut. But I guess they can't include everything. And the St. Mungo's scene. That should've been included. And Dumbledore's Howler to Aunt Petunia. That was important. But overall the movie was awesome!!!!!!!!!!!!!! i mean, the battle at the Ministry was EPIC. Whoever decided to cast Imelda Staunton deserves a medal, and she deserves an Oscar for her portrayal of Umbridge! How badly did I want to strangle her? ....Really, really badly, that's how badly! She was perfect, exactly how I imagined her! Sooooo evil. But the kittens were cute. I loved that during the Legilimency/Occlumency sequences, they used clips from the earlier films. (Except that they made it look like Ron, Hermione, and Sirius were Harry's only friends. I'd think for sure that Hagrid telling him he's a wizard and his first time flying would be right up there with all the happy moments!) Luna Lovegood deserves her own movie. I concur! I think the worst part for me (and they couldn't help it because it was an important plot-point in the book) was that Hagrid was missing for most of it. He's my favorite character in the whole series and I missed him dearly. I'm rambling off into oblivion now, so I'll just say that it was amazing and entertaining without taking too much away from the story. Very very impressive. And now if you'll excuse, I have to go wash my blue robes so I can dress up as Dumbledore again for the Barnes & Noble party on Friday night. PS - Anyone else think it was funny that Ginny's Patronus was a horse?

PS - Anyone else think it was funny that Ginny's Patronus was a horse? More disturbing, really, given what Radcliffe's been doing to horses recently in Equus... Enjoy Barnes & Noble- as I've been unable to stop whining about to anyone who'll listen, I'll be spending Friday night and all of Saturday at wedding-related activities for my wife's cousin, then driving home Sunday morning. Bleh. I figure it's cosmic justice- I couldn't stop bragging that I got Half-Blood Prince a day and a half before everyone else, so now I'll be getting Deathly Hallows a day and a half after everyone. Stupid karma. -D
