Excellent underrated horror thriller with Anthony Hopkins, Ann Marget and Burgess Merideth about a ventriloquist who is successful with his new found Dummy named Fats and he runs away to a lake resort where the love of his life lives. But his dummy becomes evil and wants to take control of his master as it wants to kill people in the resort.
It's a startling shocker with great acting, an eerie dummy and a great score by Jerry Goldmith.
If you like movies like "Sleepaway Camp", "Puppet Master", "Tourist Trap", "Child's Play", "Trilogy of Terror", "Making Contact (a.k.a. Joey)", "The Burning", "Friday The 13th", "Pin", "Pinocchio's Revenge", "Dolls (1987)" and "Devil Doll (1964)" then i recommend this movie especially for the mutant reviewers since this is a cult movie.

Between this movie and Poltergeist, my childhood was spent hiding from anything that looked remotely like an inanimate person, especially if it was smiling--unless it came with kung-fu grip. Then I'd suck it up.
Now that I'm thinking about it, I don't remember it very well, though. I may have blocked it from my memory.

This movie has a place in my childhood not from me watching it but from my parents quoting it all the time.
"There's dead bodies in Lake Melodyyy!"
...My parents are weird.
