Did anyone else see it, yet?
I absolutely LOVED it.

...even bad men love their mamas. One of the best lines I've ever heard, let alone for this movie. It was excellent. Loved it. The ending's a little soft... guess it depends on your point of view. But a very solid character study, and a kickass western to boot!

I think I've decided that it wasn't the best movie I saw this year, but, that said, it was astoundingly good. Even the ending, which people have been ragging on pretty heavily, was just perfect. I will be sorely disappointed if 3:10 isn't mentioned come Oscar season.

I liked the ending, too. There have been rumors about Crowe getting an Oscar nom. I was really pleased with Christian Bale, too... and I generally don't like him much, honestly. Also- the kid who played his son, William, (Logan Lerman, apparently) was excellent. And Charlie Prince was sick. Just sick.
I've seen both of those actors (along with some others in this) in other things but they didn't stand out, really. I think this movie was incredibly well cast.

Totally worth it just for the last scene and the "Now if we get separated, I know where to meet up" line.
One thing about the review: Mike, there is absolutely no mention of Ben Foster and his brilliance as Charlie Prince!! Blasphemous!
I, too, am not too big a Bale fan, but he was really good here... But he was upped by Crowe and Foster, two actors who definitely exceeded my expectations in this movie. You said it perfectly- perfectly cast. And Alan Tudyk!!!!!

Saw it on Friday. Wow.
Being cast as Dan (who is almost exactly the same in the original) and going up against Russell Crowe, Christian Bale never had a chance. And yet, that's exactly the part isn't it?
Ben Foster has got my attention. Will be keeping an eye on him in the future.
Peter Fonda, Alan Tudyk - great cast!
One quibble with the movie: The wife didn't look like a farmer's wife with two kids. Maybe it wouldn't bother me as bad if I hadn't seen the original, but in that one she does look worn out. It makes what Ben says even worse.
