I remember them. One of the few things in the world I couldn't bear to watch was this one HTF where a character got a fishing hook in his eyelid.
My eye hurts just thinking about it...

Hmmm. I disagree. This is the sort of thing that strikes me as mass-produced goth-bait, suitable for catching jaded teenagers of the Spongebob / JTHM persuasion. ;D

Methinks it was just a byproduct of the post-South Park pre-nowadays "Flash cartoons behaving crudley" era/fad. Akin to Joe Cartoon and countless others.

I do recall this Joe Cartoon. It had a frog in a blender. I hate to be a fogey, but I guess I don't really like humor based solely on stuff getting killed. Maybe its too shocking or I'm too weak of constitution to appreciate what is obviously hilarious. It all just makes me think of smug, bored, adolescents sitting around wearing baggy black jeans and misusing big words.
Ooh, it did have that one where the guy was spanking his monkey... I enjoyed that.

I tend to lose out on the "cartoons behaving badly" humour myself. It's part of the reason I've never really gone for the Family Guy... it toes the line a LOT more than I'm comfortable with. (although I've seen some episodes that did crack me up wonderfully) South Park has long since lost me. The writing is still there, but it's become a gross shade of its former self. Personally, I like cartoons for adults, but I think you can write 'em smart without making 'em disgusting just for the sake of it. Of course, I did laugh at a couple of HTF episodes...  |
