I agree -- it IS a really boring movie. And I do love me some old classics, like Mr. Smith Goes To Washington, but every year my mom made us watch IAWL and all I could think of is, "I'd make such a better angel than that guy."

The only time I ever saw any bit of It's A Wonderful Life, I was sitting in Sunday School and the teacher was using a clip of it to illustrate some point in the lesson though to this day I think she just wanted an excuse to watch part of it. Me, I didn't find anything terribly special.

I'm going to take the heat off of Pooly. (That's the only gift he's getting from me this year.) I hereby confess that I have never, and I mean never, watched "It's a Wonderful Life". Ignorance is more forgiveable than willful grinchiness. -D

My family invariably ends up watching a combination of some of the following in the days leading up to Christmas:
It's a Wonderful Life The Ref (when the young'uns are gone) Home Alone (don't ask me why) Home Alone 2: Lost in New York (again, don't ask) While You Were Sleeping How the Grinch Stole Christmas Those Rankin/Bass stop-motion Christmas specials Elf
But the absolute indispensables of our Christmas-movie-watching tradition are the Charlie Brown Christmas special and A Christmas Story. I literally cannot remember a Christmas without watching either of these.

gnorance is more forgiveable than willful grinchiness. -D Hey, I can willfully grinch a lot better than Pooly could in his wildest Canadian dreams! So me, Oogie, Justin, Pooly and Ms. Jellybean are all going to go hang out in the cool peoples' corner and let the rest of you pansies watch IAWL to your sappy little hearts' content. Oh yeah, and Merry Christmas everyone! ;D

Poolman- something is missing from your soul Husband had never seen A Christmas Story until the year we started dating, when I forced him to rent it, even thought I knew it would be on for 24 hours straight, becasue he 'couldn't wait' in my opinion. He Loved it, and then lost the tape, never paid the fee, and had to close his blockbuster account because of it. We found it at his parent's house last year, so now we own it. I always watch, with no exceptions, Charlie Brown, A Christmas Story, Pretty much ALL of the old stop animation classics, It's a Wonderful Life, and Meet me in St Louis. I LOVE Christmas movies

*slowly gets up from his fold-out chair and joins Sue under the sign that says "People Who Have Never, and I Mean Never, Watched 'It's a Wonderful Life.' He also brings his fold-out chair with him* I remember when I hadn't seen it. I was happier then. It's not even that it's bad. It's just really dull, really predictable (even for the first time viewer), and super saccharine, even for a Christmas movie. Fine, I saw it once, I don't need to see it again. Who's with me? Justin? Want to stand in my tent?

Well I got Guitar Hero III for Christmas, so you and I can rock out with our teeny tiny little guitars.
...I even got a carrying case.

My family always watches the Muppets' Christmas Carol. Michael Caine makes a great Scrooge, and Gonzo and Rizzo narrate, which means it's full of great Dickens quotes:
"He was a tight-fisted hand to the grindstone, Scrooge. A squeezing, wrenching, grasping, clutching, covetous old sinner."
When you mix that in with Fozziwig's Rubber Chicken Factory and Gonzo hitting on chickens, you have hours of quality quotable entertainment.

For the record, I never really liked It's A Wonderful Life, either.
I'm kind of the Scrooge in my family, so I don't really watch the Christmas movies too much. However, I make exceptions for a Christmas Story, the Muppets Christmas Carol, and the Year Without a Santa Claus (it's the Miser Brothers that do it for me.)
I watch Millions and Nightmare Before Christmas year-round, but I definitely make a point to sit the family down for at least one of them during the holidays. I also enjoy Christmas Vacation, but we don't have it on DVD and our last VCR broke a couple years ago.

I wached The Ref last night, and it will now become a tradition because it is hilarious. Good thing the mutants turned me onto to it.
