which is to say: what is the first film you saw in the theater (let's stay pure, folks) in 2008?
i ended 2007 taking a friend to see 'juno' on christmas night. it didn't occur to me until i was walking out of 'atonement' tonight that it was my first theatrical experience this new year. from there, the idea of the thread quite obviously popped into existence!
if the first movie you see sets the tone for the rest of the year, i'm in really good shape. 'atonement' is phenomenal! (i love you, keira!)

Juno was also my last film of 2007. I do believe my first of 2008 is Sweeney Todd. This means that I have a fantastic movie-viewing year, but my mom is cursed. (She couldn't get past the gore.)

My first film of 2008 was Enchanted. And I was really, really impressed with the first half, and extremely "meh" with the second half. Overall, worth a rental, not so much for the theater.

My first film was National Treasure 2, but I wanted it to be Sweeney Todd. My theater didn't have it! Can you believe that? And it was an hour one way to the nearest theater that did.
So if that's the tone of the year it either means 1) entertaining, and above my expectations popcorn flicks, or 2) being horribly disappointed by not being able to see the movies I really want to.
So, is the glass half full or empty? You decide.

Anyone going to make Mr. Uwe Boll's "In The Name of the King: A Dungeon Siege Tale" their first film of the year?
I'm tempted. Juno's tempting too -- is it worth it?

Anyone going to make Mr. Uwe Boll's "In The Name of the King: A Dungeon Siege Tale" their first film of the year? I'm tempted. Do it, Justin! You know you can't resist the siren song of Uwe Boll! Go and crash upon the deadly rocks of another game to movie adaption! And then report back with that brand of vitriol that only you possess!

I've never made my wife sit through one of his movies, though. I think that might cross a line in our relationship.

Aarg, I was going to say that Cloverfield was going to be my first film of '08...but now I realized that it was actually Atonement. Blech, that's a crappy way to start off the new year. Oh well, hopefully Cloverfield will make up for it!

My first film of 08 was "Sweeney Todd". I can not STAND musicals... but this one was decent. Johnny Depp can actually sing a bit. Alan Rickman really surprised me with this one.

Watched Sweeney Todd tonight, making it my first Aught-Eight movie.
You'd think Tim Burton's bleak, dark style would be played by now, but I really liked the movie. What are the chances of Helena Bonham Carter leaving Tim Burton for me?

Well, considering she's into Tim Burton, I'd say looking like a killer clown-demon would only help my case.
Looks like I'm visiting the costume store tomorrow...

My last of '07 was Juno, which I saw on New Year's Day, and my first of '08 is also Juno, which I immediately needed a second viewing of, on January 2.
