Thanks a lot Justin! Your Solarbabies review made me remember this roller skating blading movie that I have no idea what the title was or who was in it! It's making me crazy!
Okay. I'm thinking the movie would've been very late '80s/very early '90s. This teenage boy with dyed blonde yellow hair moves from some small town where his mad roller blading skillz make him all "popular" and "the bee's knees" and "stuff." Then he moves to a big city in California (Los Angeles maybe?) and while he's out roller blading he gets cornered and challenged by a roller blading gang(!).
Of course the leader has either a girlfriend or younger sister who is all in lurve at first sight. And he has to stand up to the gang and prove his worth.
Other than that I remember there's this one scene where he roller blades off an overpass. I think the gang was chasing him and he has to recuperate in order to get his revenge and prove his worth.

The movie you're thinking of might be Airborne; the plots are similar, but the locations are backwards.
Airborne is about a floppy-haired California kid who gets sent to live with his uncle, aunt, and cousin in Cincinnati for the winter. (The cousin is played by Seth Green, whose character is named, um, Wiley.) Anyway, California dude is an awesome surfer and blader (not to mention a hippie philosopher), but he manages to piss off some jocks at school, naturally, and falls in love with the head jock's sister. It all ends happily, though, when they have to band together to beat the school's rivals at roller-blade hockey. The "California" slang is hilarious, as is most of the romantic dialogue. Seth Green's wardrobe is the highlight of the film.

Hmm... Maybe... But I don't think so. I remember it as him going to city in California, not leaving, and no hockey team. But some of that sounds right on the mark. And it's been so long, and those movies were all so much alike... DANG IT! Now I'm going to have to see if I can rent it. A roller blading movie! Rawgh!
EDIT: Netflix doesn't have it! Now I'll be haunted forever!

Some searching around turns up Prayer of the Rollerboys. Has a gang in it, and it's in LA, so that sounds promising.

I feel like I'm being bratty, but Prayer for the Rollerboys ain't it. I'm sorry! Forgive me world! It's Justin and his curse's fault!
And now I'm craving a cheesy roller skater/blader movie. Horror of horrors.
Also not: Gleaming the Cube Thrashin' (too old; definitely not Josh Brolin) Brink (too new, I would've seen the movie on cable '95/'96) Any futuristic/post apocalypse blading/skating movies Korean made Swedish made
Just a new kid in town with a 'tude and roller blades. Proving his worth to the thugs, and winning their respect and the girl.
