So I finally got around to seeing Interstate 60. I have a couple of thoughts I want to throw out there (and I'm sure this isn't anything new, just what I got out of it):
Spoilery stuff ahead!
1. The movie is symbolic of the seven deadly sins:
The girl on the side of the road is Lust. The guy who got the wish to eat as much as he wanted is Gluttony. Morlaw is Greed. The guy who won't work for food is Sloth. Michael J. Fox is Wrath. The Euphoria segment is Envy. And the father is Pride.
But out of the small group I saw it with, I'm the only one who took it this way. First there's the inclusion of the Devil. Second the movie doesn't all take place inside Neal's head, as the two opening scenes show. Third, whenever Neal fails a test (like betting on Bottomless Stomach Guy) he's punished (losing all his money), or when he doesn't succumb to temptation (not taking the money from Kurt Russell) he's rewarded (by having Chris Cooper cross his path).
2. James Marsden's character is a representation Santa Claus. Because he brings gifts. Really.
