Man, this series got canceled way too early, but they've just released the entire series on an excellent 6-DVD set.
I honestly can't think of anyone I wouldn't recommend this series to. And since it won't be on TV anytime in the near future, this is a great DVD to get your hands on.

I keep hearing about F&G, but I don't know anything about it. Can somebody give me the lowdown?

The show is brilliant, but it isn't quite reccomendable to *everyone*. I remember when it was originally on the air my brother refused to watch it because "all those kids are ugly. Why would they make a show entirely of ugly people? I don't want to have to look at that."

Dude, I challenge any heterosexual male to watch three episodes of that show and NOT fall in love with Linda Cardellini. It's not possible.
God, I'm lonely.

I love Freaks and Geeks. Love. It. Will be ordering my limited edition DVD from the official website (since that's the one with all the insane geeked out fan bonus stuff not sold in stores) as soon as financially possible. Can. Not. Wait. For whatever my opinion's worth about these things, Mutant Clare throws her full endorsement behind Freaks and Geeks.
And anybody who thinks James Franco is ugly is either blind or insane.

Ah well, I guess I'm just stuck with my regular old store-bought one. This show was cancelled far, far too soon. Stupid television.

Uh... $120?
WOW.
Like, that's kind of a lot of money for those of us with criminally underpaying jobs. As for me, I've heard a lot of good things about the show and always intended to check it out someday... and under normal circumstances, I'd definitely want the most deluxe version possible (I was soooo pissed when I had to return my Indiana Jones boxset, the Best Buy one with the bonus DVD, because my parents bought the fullscreen version... grrrrrrrr)... but double the price for just two additional discs and a (admittedly nice-looking) yearbook/booklet? Like I said, that's a lot of greenbacks. Diehard fans of the show, maybe you can tell me- what makes it worth double the price of the regular, already-extensive DVD set?

At first, I thought he said "down with your pants!"
*brrr* Too many times I've heard him utter those words...

Keeping with the topic of Freaks and Geeks and pants, I remember one episode of the show where the main character is wearing this really odd outfit called a "Parisian Night-Suit" and his friend tells him:
"That's a jumpsuit. My uncle wears them because he's too lazy to put on pants."
I don't know why, maybe I was just in a really weird mood, but I managed to laugh for a good ten minutes just because of that line. However, I was on the phone at the time and as I choked with laughter my friend yelled at me to stop for quite some time. Surprisingly, he never hung up the phone.
Fun times with Freaks and Geeks. I love this show.

Finally got the DVD and the show was better than I remembered. It really leaned more towards drama than comedy sometimes, but it was still great. I wish there had been more of it, more time to develop all the great characters, but it's kind of comforting to know that the show was canned before it ever got a chance to suck. It's almost better that it's a one-season-wonder.

I've been neglegent in spreading the love. I ordered my deluxe collector's edition, it arrived in the mail and is now, honest and true, one of my most prized possessions.
$120? Is nothing compared to what it's worth. It's got 8 DVD's, 6 of which are all 18 episodes (and every episode has AT LEAST one commentary track plus each DVD also has outtakes, bloopers, behind the scenes stuff and deleted scenes). The 7th and 8th discs are not available in stores and basically have every miniscule production feature possible. Full length table reads for two episodes, interviews with the creators, story boards, you name it.
PLUS, the coolest thing about it in my opinion, is that it's packaged as a year book. The DVD's take up the last 10 or so pages, but there's a whole front secion that has pictures, letters from the creator and writer, a letter from Mr. Rosso. And the front and back covers of the DVD yearbook are signed from all the characters just like a real one would be. The front is to Lindsay and the back is to Sam. And all the characters leave episode or plot arc specific comments to both of them.
It's probably the most amazing DVD package I've ever seen. So I sent Judd Apatow (creator/writer/director) and Paul Feig (producer/creator) an email thanking them for it:
Mr. Apatow and Mr. Feig,
I just wanted to take a minute to thank you for making one of the best TV shows ever and for creating a collector's edition DVD of that show that is truly and stunningly wonderful. I've loved Freaks and Geeks for a long, long time and I can't tell you how fantastic I'm finding the DVD package to be. It's clearly a labor of love and I just wanted to let you know that I think it's one of the coolest things I've ever owned. You have a lot to be proud of in regards to your involvement with Freaks and Geeks and I just wanted you to know that you should definitely put the DVD package of the series on that list as well.
Thanks again so much for Freaks and Geeks. You rock!
Sincerely, Clare
A few days later Judd Apatow wrote me back to say: Clare, I am glad you like it. We are so glad it is finally out there. Best, Judd
