Reading Justin's timeline (very well done BTW) got me to thinking about how they could have done the last series so that it was something more original.
My biggest gripe with Enterprise was that it was just a rework of previous series. A ship travelling around in space meeting with adventure.
I had always imagined that a neat idea would have been to keep the series mostly within the solar system with the occasional foray out in a much more primitive, slower ship. You could have locations such as the construction of starbase one, the moons of Jupiter, the asteroid belt.
Anyone else ever had any ideas as to how the last series could have been more original?

Before Enterprise came out, there was a lot of buzz about it being about Section...umm...whatever the number was. You know, that really awesome secret intelligence service uncovered in Deep Space Nine.
Ahh, Deep Space Nine...the best Star Trek ever made, and nearly totally ignored by the public and movie producers.

yea I think next gen and ds9 were a huge powerhouse.
How I would have made enterprise original?
I think if they'd been assigned to one solar system. I think that producers have this notion that you have to have all of entire space to keep a cast busy. But look how long we've been on earth and new crap keeps popping up.
I think a solar system would have been plenty. They could have done all kinds of cool things, fought off invadors, united races, set up sweet planetary defense systems > : D Put quasar cannons on moons and things.
Like if they'd said, ok your mission is to get this sector of 7 planets ready for a war in five years, and you get one warship, one cruiser and 3 transport ships, and the rest you have to deal with the planets, BYE!!!!!!
Then naturally. They lose practically everything and have to deal with the natives, etc. Then regain communications with their stufffffff, and build things uuuuuuuuppppp, I like building, building is important. You have to be able to see things moving in the positive direction, without the stupid dramamamama that everyone thinks has to go into stuff to make it interesting.
Sure everyone could meet up and be all happy and hook up with each other, but they'd work as a team not as whiney little babies.
I know this's probably arguable, but it'd be like Earth 2, and War Planets/Shadow Raiders put together. But with a Star Trek spin.
