hey. even though i have a stack of dvds and vhs tapes that's all stuff i need to watch, i feel like splurging on a complete season of a television show on dvd. i think it's down to choosing between two shows: - dead like me - freaks and geeks
i know lots of people like "freaks and geeks." why? i haven't heard too much about "dead like me" since i don't get showtime. is it good? if anyone can help me out at all, even with minimal verbosity, that would be AWESOME. thanks!

Kyle,
I've not seen Freaks & Geeks (obviously not been syndicated over here in the UK yet), but Dead Like Me is pure awesome condensed into televisual form.
It's an exceptionally good black comedy and has the coolest title sequence in the history of man. I mean the Grim Reaper at a gym! The Grim Reaper eating hot dogs! What more do you want.
Seriously, once S1 hits Region 2 DVD it will definately be added to my collection as one of the best TV shows I've seen for a long, long while.

I went out on faith and purchased Dead Like Me from Amazon.com. We shall see -- but it sounds cool, and I've been wanting to see it for a while.
MAN, I love TV series DVDs. I'm *this* close to just cutting off cable. Except I'd miss out on The Daily Show, new Scrubs, and new Arrested Developments.

Speaking from a remarkably uninformed perspective, I'll say that the 1.3 episodes I've watched so far on my Freaks & Geeks set were great. Sadly, the 4th season of the Simpsons interrupted the flow, but I'm very much looking forward to getting back to it soon and seeing if they kept up the high level of quality... which from everything I've heard, they did. It really does seem to be a more accurate portrayal of high school than most, though- the kids aren't all gorgeous movie stars and 25-year-olds pretending to be 17, and I can tell you that those geeks are exactly the kind of people I used to alternately hang out with and shake my head at back in school. And the end of the first episode, where Sam tries to take the advice of his friends by taking the girl out for a slow dance... and Styx's "Come Sail Away" suddenly changes from sloooooooow to fast tempo- who can't relate to THAT? On the other hand, I've never seen Dead Like Me, so it could be even better. I feel so helpful now. -D

I *really* wanna see "Dead Like Me" but I don't know if I want to enough to impulse buy the DVD set sight unseen. But I can vouch for "Freaks and Geeks" being solid.

Hi!
I bought Dead like me just after seeing the "preview" for the show on tv... I don't regret my choice! It's fun and original, the cast is great (there's Inigo Montoya from the movie "The princess bride"). I'll buy the other seasons for sure.
I haven't seen any images from freaks and geeks, so I can't really judge...

Things like Netflix are perfect for giving TV DVDs a dry run. My boyfriend and I have been plowing through The West Wing, The Office, The Wire, and Alias since joining 3 weeks ago. We just have the 3 disk plan, but as most TV DVDs have several episodes (season 1 of the West Wing is double-sided and thus has 8!), you have time to watch while you're waiting for new ones to arrive.
I love Netflix! No more Blockbuster for me!
