*Official Poll Formation*
(we'll be using these answers to formulate the top 10 eps for people to vote on)
List your FIVE (and only five) all-time personal favorite Simpsons episodes.
If you can give both the official title and a brief description, that would be great.

Only FIVE?! Criminal.
Marge vs. the Monorail. (4-12) Springfield's Town Council comes into a few million dollars. Should the citizens spend the cash on widening Main Street, thus attracting more trade to the city, reducing accidents, and improving public health - or give it all to travelling salesman Lyle Lanley in exchange for his monorail?
Cape Feare. (5-2) 'Die, Bart, die!' Sideshow Bob gets parole - and he's out for revenge. The Simpsons must flee from Springfield to Terror Lake and become the Thompsons - if Bart's going to stand a chance...
And Maggie Makes Three. (6-13) Inspired by an especially dull night's TV viewing, Homer has a flashback to the distant days of 1993 and the birth of Maggie. He describes giving up his dream job and explains why there are no photos of Maggie in the house.
Bart Sells His Soul. (7-4) Bart scoffs at the very concept of soul - and sells his to Milhouse for $5. Soon he finds that automatic doors won't open to him, that the pets hiss at the sight of him, and that he doesn't find Itchy and Scratchy funny any more. Meanwhile, Moe's had a brainwave. To boost trade he's converting his tavern into 'Uncle Moe's Family Feedbag'.
Trilogy of Error. (12-18) A day in the life of The Simpsons is told from three different perspectives. Marge accidentally cuts off Homer's thumb, and he must be rushed to the hospital. Lisa misses the bus and needs to get to school for the Science fair. Bart & Milhouse find a cave full of fireworks, but are chased by the mafia.

SimpsoncalifragilisticexpialaD'OHcious Another musical episode. Marge is stressed and wants Homer to hire a Nanny. Eventually they hire Shary Bobbins.
Those are the only two I can think of. So there ya go.

Bearing in mind I haven't watched in a while...
A Streetcar Named Marge- Marge auditions for the musical production "Oh Streetcar!", and Maggie is placed in the Ayn Rand School for Tots while Mom performs.
You Only Move Twice- Homer takes a job for world terrorist Hank Scorpio
Home Sweet Homediddily Dum Doodily- The Simpson kids are fostered by the Flandereseses.
I don't know the title, but the one where Homer joins the Movementarians.
Lisa's Wedding- A fortuneteller predicts Lisa's romantic future.

Whacking Day - While the town of Springfield prepares for the annual snake whacking day, Bart gets expelled from school for embarrassing Skinner during a school inspection. Barry White guest stars.
Deep Space Homer - After seeing their ratings decline, NASA decides to send Joe Average to space. In this case, Joe Average is Homer Simpson. James Taylor, and Buzz Aldrin guest star.
Treehouse of Horror V - The best Treehouse of Horror episode. In a Outer Limits parody, The Simpsons presents three tales of horror... In “The Shinning,”, no TV and no beer makes Homer go insane at an isolated mountain lodge and only Bart's shinning can save the family. Next, Ned Flanders becomes the ruler of a George Orwellian world after Homer adversely uses a toaster to change the past in “Time and Punishment”. Finally, overcrowding at the school's detention room and budget cuts in the cafeteria leads Principal Skinner to come up with a unique single solution in “Nightmare Cafeteria”.
Homer the Great - also known as the Stonecutters episode. Homer joins a secret sociality, where his greatness is revealed, but only after he destroys the secret parchment and stripped of his membership. Patrick Stewart guest stars.
Behind the Laughter - Explore the "actual," off-stage lives of the Simpson family, from the money and drugs to celebrity and supermodels, including testimonial from Springfield citizens about how fame tore the family apart. Guest starring Willie Nelson and Jim Forbes.

Who Shot Mr. Burns Part One- Mr. Burns' evilness leads to him getting shot. Guest Star: Tito Puente.

Flaming Moe's- Moe steals a drink recipe from Homer, and it gets very popular. Guest Star: Aerosmith.

3 Boys and A Comic Book- I think it's what it's called, the one where Martin, Bart, and Milhouse pool money to buy Radioactive Man #1
Last Exit To Springfield- Dental Plan... Lisa needs braces... Dental Plan... Lisa needs Braces.
The Mysterious Voyage of Homer- The one where Homer hallucinates after eating a death pepper.
Forgot what it's called, the one with Mr. Sparkle.
You Only Move Twice- Hank Scorpio Rules! He loves German Beeer.

Homer At The Bat- Homer becomes star of the company softball team, but his fame is short-lived when Mr. Burns hires major leaguers as plant employees to win the big game against Shelbyville. How can you not love an episode where Smithers has to explain to Burns that his proposed center fielder has been dead for 87 years?
Raging Abe Simpson And His Grumbling Grandson In "The Curse Of The Flying Hellfish"- In WWII, Grampa Simpson and his squad captured a fortune in stolen Nazi art, which the last surviving squad member will inherit. When one dies and only Grampa and Mr. Burns are left, Burns tries to have Grampa killed, so Abe and Bart go after the treasure themselves. Classic moment: Grampa says to Martin, "What're you cackling at, fatty? Too much pie, that's your problem!"
You Only Move Twice- Homer is headhunted by Hank Scorpio, founder of the Globex Corporation, which turns out to be a sinister organization bent on world domination. Homer excels at his new job, but the rest of the family suffers. Guest appearance by James Bont.
The Homer They Fall- Homer becomes a successful boxer through the unique strategy of taking punches till his opponents become exhausted, then pushing them down, but may sustain serious damage in his bout with Mike Tyson-clone Drederick Tatum.
Tatum [about Homer]: "I think he's a good man, I like him, I got nothing against him, but I'm definitely gonna make orphans of his children." Reporter: "The kids DO have a mother, champ." Tatum: "Yes, but, uh, I imagine that she would die of grief."
Lisa's First Word- As the family tries to get Maggie to talk, we see flashbacks to Bart's first word, the birth of Lisa, and how little Bart copes with not being the center of attention anymore. There've been a few emotional Simpsons episodes, but Maggie's first (and only) word gets me every time. Perfect mix of hilarity and sentimentality.
Man, I feel so bad... I had to leave out The Cartridge Family, Boy-Scoutz N The Hood, Homer Vs. The Eighteenth Amendment ("You see, boy? The real money's in bootlegging! Not in your childish vandalism."), Separate Vocations, Lisa On Ice ("Me fail English? That's unpossible!"), Homer Badman (grenade out of pop rocks and soda... brilliant!), and Homer The Great. This couldn't have been a top 20 list? ;D

Cape Feare - Sideshow Bob is put on parole and tries to kill Bart again while the Simpsons become the Thompsons under the social Security program.
Last Exit To Springfield - Lisa needs braces, but the Simpsons can't afford it without the dental plan. Homer must become president of the union to negotiate with Mr. Burns, who also wants the dental plan.
Homer at Bat - Mr. Burns places a 1 Million dollar bet on the rolling Power plant softball team led by Homer, but Mr. Burns, in the best interest of the bet, hires ringers from the MLB. (Roger Clemens, Ozzie Smith, Wade Boggs etc...)
Burns Heir - Mr. Burns cannot give birth to a child and needs an heir to his fortune. He holds try outs, and Bart fails, but later Mr. Burns agrees to Bart as his heir.
Lemon of Troy - Shelbyville kids steal a beloved lemon tree from Springfield, and Bart and his mates try to get it back.

1) Cape Feare- the rake gag never gets old. And I love Sideshow Bob's rendition of the HMS PINAFORE
2) Treehouse of horrors- (the first one) with the Amityville kind of house, the aliens (was this the first time they were introduced?), and the Raven starring Homer
3) A Streetcar Named Marge- had the rest of the episode sucked (which it didn't), it was worth it just to see the show
4) I don't remember the name, but it was the one where they flashedback to Lisa's birth and gave all of us a slogan to buy from hot topic- "Can't sleep, clown'll eat me . . . can't sleep, clown'll eat me . . . can't sleep, clown'll eat me . . . "
5) I think I'm going to have to say the Simpsons' Variety Hour one- I don't know why I like that one so much

I used to have a sound clip of the rake gag as my welcome for Windows 95. Seems oddly appropriate.
And as for Pinafore, "I shall send you to heaven before I send you to hell!" Classic. But I'm going to be a sucker for any Gilbert & Sullivan reference. I leave tomorrow for England for the Int'l G&S Festival! See y'all in a week or so.

I have to put in a vote for the one where Marge is afraid to fly because her dad was a stewardess. I have no clue what the official name is. I just sawt his last night and I had totally forgotten how underrated Marge is and how excellent that episode was.
...Lowenstein...

My Top 5:
Cape Feare - probably watched this 15-20 times. Continues the rule of thumb that any episode involving Sideshow Bob is an instant classic
Eighteenth Amendment - seen this one just as much. great over-the-top ridiculousness and a quote to define my college experience: "To alcohol, the cause of, and solution to, all of lifes problems"
Flaming Moe's - The Cheers parody is priceless.
Days of Wine and D'ohses - The trash night scene is 5 of the funniest minutes in Simpsons history. "Hey Flanders, can your God do this?"
Homer at the Bat - "Mattingly, I thought I told you to trim those sideburns!"
