It was awesome, jaw dropingly awesome. If nobody watched it I'm not even going to bother discussing it, cuz my last post about it didn't conjure up that much excitement. Anyway it was awesome. I've never been wrapped around a TV show that much ever. If you missed it, you really missed out if you liked Supersize Me or just like shows about situations that you normally don't hear about.
I sincerely hope someone took some time out to watch it besides me.

I saw it as well, and I was also moved. I also happen to live that life everyday. Morgan Spurlock has an 'everyman' quality naturally that people like Michael Moore try to create artifically. The next episode looks like it is featuring another man, so I'm not sure if it will be as compelling as the pilot.

It probably won't be, but it is still a topic I think that is like never touched on. So I'll probably just watch it to LEARN. Just like they released Supersize Me with a school version.
I do not TOTALLY agree with him, cuz any rational person knows how screwed up the price of everything gets when minimum wage goes up. In Oregon its $7.05. Everything here costs a fortune.
But when it is put into perspective, I think everyone will agree that people should get paid a fair amount for the work they do. Nobody should bust their rear all day out side working on yards and stuff doing back breaking work for jack squat while someone frying up frozen turds is making the same amount as you and getting free meals as well.
So I think he is right, but I think his message had to be a tad too simple to be accurate for people that actually know what he was talking about, but I think for people that may not have known, I think it is still a really good intro for the bigger problem. Which is, the rest of the world hates America for being so "rich" when there are so many families that can't even put food on the table because the politicians are so busy squandering all of our tax dollars.
Which may not have been his exact message of course, but hey, it does actually apply. I'm glad someone else saw it. I'll for sure watch the next one, and the next one, cuz the messages are good, and you learn a lot and there aint no good shows on anymore that'll say it how it is.
All this watered down politically correct, everythings just fine bullcrap. Or the armageddon bullcrap. The truth always lies in the middle, and I think Morgan is the closest too that right now ya know.

I caught the rerun on Sunday night. I enjoyed the program. They made choices I wouldn't have (buying snacks at the movie theater) and I would've tried home treatments for the UTI before going to the ER. But I thought it was very thought provoking--especially the part where one of Morgan's coworkers said he made more at GM 25 years ago than he does now. Of course, GM was downgraded to junk status a couple weeks ago, but it's food for thought.
The steroids episode doesn't really interest me. I think the Christian living with Muslims and the straight guy living in the Castro could be interesting.

I think i'll watch the steroid one, mainly because I know two people that've had their lives SAVED by steroids, and also because well, its in the news right now with all those fooseball players taking them. I have no idea why. You don't need steroids to warm a freakin bench all day and spit things.
Anyway yea. Thats my 2 cents.
As to what I would have done? I've been there. I think they could have done a lot with potatoes that I didn't really see. I totally know how screwed they were clinic wise too. It is the same way here in Portland, OR where I live. If you don't have 100% healthcare you're going to be paying till your great great grand children are dust.
So I guess ya know, meals aren't the problem, the problem is staying healthy and not getting bored to tears. I think the reason they splurged, is because everyone has to do SOMETHING for themselves SOME TIME. Even if you are totally broke, you have to do something for yourself. That is all there is too it.
Morgan tried to find some free stuff to do, and it was a total joke. So.... what is there to do, go play in a crack addict infested park, go walk throught he mall with all of the .... crack addicts, go walk down the street with the crack.... hmm seeing a trend here.
FYI don't walk down any streets around here, or park in any parking lots, or drive throughs, or stop at stop lights. You will get hit up for money from bums, whether you have money or not. Don't answer your door either, they'll find you one way or another, and try to do yard work for you whether you want them too or not.
Not having money sucks, some people do something about it, some people don't. I guess the only thing Morgan could have really done different in my eyes, is if he'd gone to the dark side, and tried to support a habit, and seeing how long he could steal to support it without getting thrown in jail, then incidently he would have had no problem with the meal thing, or the lodging, but woulda had to deal with protecting himself from other stuff.
Sheesh I don't know how I could live putting my significant other through those situations, good grief. Talk about stress. Man ohhhhhh maaaaaaaannnnnnn. I wonder if the camera men were packin. Like if Morgan said hey you go with her and you pack!
That's what I think. If this wednesday goes to crap I'll just go to bed early, No biggie

I watched part of this weeks, Morgan went to Mexico for part of it and saw how many perscription steroids he could buy, and that part was really interesting. And it was all interesting till the steroids started kicking in and the guy turned into a total jerk. If I wanted to see guys yellin at women I'd watch Jerry Springer, plus I was really tired so I turned it off. Did anyone else watch it? It wasn't baaaaad. Morgan was in a few parts here and there doin background research on it. Lemme know...

I came in just about the time someone was saying how the wife was likely to try to sabotage the guy's attempt at whatever it was he was doing, and then cut to her complaining about something or other. It didn't hold my interest. I'll try to try again next week.

i cut in about 18 minutes in, the dudes tryin to exersize, and the aerobic chick and his wife are arguing, and she cuts the workout chick off, and so they start cat fighting, and hes like dont talk to my wife like that. And I'm like yea, this isn't going to be good. It actually WAS good, the problem was, is that, it was like.... way too much like watching Jerry Springer, if it was like a sitcom. Could a Jerry Springer sitcom work? Hmmmmm.... A reality show sitcom maybe? Like Ozzy but more trashy and less richy? And no Ozzy Yelling. ah yea it wouldnt work. you need ozzy

I really enjoyed tonight's episode. On one hand, it had a very "after school special" vibe, but on the other hand, I was really pleased to see the nuances of the Christian guy (I forget his name). I liked how we saw both moments where he was very compassionate and understanding towards Muslims or Islam, and other moments where he, for lack of a better term, wasn't (one of the conversations with his first imam seemed a bit heated; the alcohol discussion; some of his comments on the radio; his argument with his host family about terroristm). I get the feeling that he learned a lot, but it never seemed like he was being fake for the cameras.
I didn't understand why Morgan was so adamant that he say the traditional prayers. I would think that being with them during the prayer times, and praying to God in his own way (which one of the imams suggested) would've been enough. If things had been switched and a Muslim had been with a Catholic family, would Morgan have insisted that the Muslim pray a rosary? Okay, maybe that's not the most fair analogy--the rosary is mostly "Hail Mary"s, who probably has a more important place in Christian theology than in Muslim. Whereas the Muslim prayers seemed to mostly just acknowledge that there's only one God (they also say "and Muhammad is his prophet," who isn't considered a prophet by Christians, as far as I know). Maybe an "Our Father" would be a better comparision?
Wow, I'm really rambling.

I didn't get to watch it, I watched the intro and then realized there was no way I could stay up to watch the whole thing, and my fiance and myself vowed to get the dvd if one should ever come up. But I read what you said and my 2 cents is, I think the one limit there should be on any reality TV show is that you should never ever make someone go against their religious beliefs. If you wanna say, hey, to compete in this challenge, you have to accept Voodoo and Wicca, the person should be able to say, "No, but I'll pray to who I believe when you guys do that." When Mad Mad House was on, one of the challenges was you had to do some Wicca stuff, and a few people that didn't want to do it got some pretty bad remarks from it, they were kind of twits about it, but still, if someone says no, it should stand without any backtalk or ill thought.
That being said, it goes both ways. So anywho, if it would have been me personally, I understand quite a bit about their religion, I've talked to quite a bit of them about all their Hail Mary's and stuff. I just don't totally understand it all yet, but I dunno, I wouldn't ever switch over, but it sure seems in an aweful lot of ways, the normal ones are just like brothers to Christians. That's how I feel anyway.
The only ones that feel threatening are oh, lets say, the ones that like to fly planes into stationary buildings, bomb embassies, etc. Attack anyone with white skin. The rest of them seem just like brothers ya know.

Not a bump or anything. I'm just saying I just watched the alcohol eppy with my fiance last night. I was really really gripped to it and everything, but I was
#1 bummed cuz they never told what it did to her various inside body parts
#2 cuz they never followed up on if the teenager ever really cared eventually
However, I think it was nice that they tied it into helping the youngest out anyway.
On a different topic, he was kicking the crap out of that punching bag, if that kid ever gets into a fair fight, whoever he is up against is going to really have very hurt legs for a while afterwards.
I guess to wrap this up, I do not feel like that show really reached whatever goal it was trying to reach, and kind of ended up proving some various other points, and talking about some other stuff that was away from the original intended purpose.
It was still good though, and I think it is probably my favorite behind the original minimum wage episode.
