Ya know, after writing that, I've seen some of the episodes from this season. I've actually enjoyed the few random episodes from previous seasons that I've caught... but not the ones I've seen this year. I'll eat my hat now...

I happened to catch an episode last night. My suspicions were confirmed... nothing but good looking women in tight tops running around everywhere. I'll definitely research it some more (for science, of course!).
It's still a good show, quite enjoyable, except for the girls mostly getting yelled at by their borderline abusive spouses. Except that one guy with the Superman tattoo. He's whipped. But nice.
...
What was I talking about, again?

Just saw the first episode of the new American Idol season. Mary Roach scares me to no end.

Was she the "worst singer of the year" with the voices in her head? Yeah, she was creepy. I can't help but feel really bad watching the first couple episodes each season for finding enjoyment in the disillusion and crushing disappointment of others.

Actually I have a standing agreement with my friends. If ever I seem tempted to enter a singing 'talent' contest, particularly one that has any chance of airing on television, they are to beat me unconscious (in a compassionate way, of course). In return, I'll do the same for them.
I totally don't understand the people on American Idol who claim that their friends tell them they're awesome singers. No. No, those are NOT friends.

The ones that can't sing aren't the ones that upset me. They are the only reason I watch the show at all. What upsets me is when there are good singers that get turned down for some stupid reason (like they're fat or whatever). But then some crappy singer comes on and I feel good all over again.

The one that cracked me up last night was the girl who said that she didn't have to pay a lot to look like she was rich. But that wasn't really the whole reason I was entertained. When she was asked to leave, she was sooo convinced that she wasn't one of those "losers" who doesn't know how to sing. She talked trash about all those people who were blind to the fact that they couldn't sing, and yet she thought that she was one of the good ones that was eliminated by mistake. And then, you hear her mother (I assume that's who it was) saying tha the reason she didn't get to go to Hollywood was because the was hoarse.
I dunno about everyone else, but when even Paula Abdul says I can't sing, then I betchya I probably can't sing. I usually defer to the experts, unless I consider myself more of an expert than those who claim to know their stuff.
I admit that while I may have some talents, singing is not one of them. So, you'll never see me trying to strut my stuff on American Idol... ;D

The only way I could be a professional singer is if I was in one of those new bands where the singer doesn't actually "sing", per se, but yell and cry at the same time. But I'll pass on that. I could also be a professional singer if I was William Shatner. Maybe he's got a portal hidden away in an office building somewhere near me.

To be honest, I haven't missed a season of The Amazing Race. I think it's addicting, the way they travel all over the world and not have to pay for the tickets, drive cool cars, and do all those crazy "detours" and "roadblocks". I was especially excited last season when they went here; Palawan looked so great on tv.
Survivor I stopped watching regularly after the 3rd season, but I started watching the entire thing again with Rupert's group (he rocks!) in Pearl Islands and All-Stars.
I didn't like My Big Fat Obnoxious Fiancee because I thought it was too mean for my taste.
And this is my first time watching American Idol, so I'll see where it goes. Mary Roach is freaky, though.

The thing that really DOES bother me about the Amazing Race is that it takes all these breathtaking, exotic, cool locations all around the world and renders them generic and disposable.
Once, just ONCE, have I heard a character mutter anything at all about how beautiful the country they were flying through was. That seems a real waste to me.

Some of them do...some of the time. I did notice though that they emphasize more on them complaining on how disgusting something is, or how dirty, or how "third-world".

Oh, I heard some beauties in the finale. Hayden said something like "I won't talk to any more of these people" in the late going.
And then the doofus whose ass she has been screaming at for weeks like a compulsive cow asked her to marry him. My wife and I just stared at the screen in total shock. "You want to marry THAT?!?" So weird.
I noticed there'll be a gay couple in the next season. That's cool!

Murder in Small Town X is the only reality show that I have watched start to finish. It was interesting and didn't focus on how many times a friend can stab another person in the back.
I did start getting into The Amazing Race Late last season and I did enjoy it. and I have been known to watch the occasional American/Canadian Idol and Survivor (I watch it for the Challanges).
I do generally hate "reality" shows though. Give me back Sienfeld over Big Brother or any likewise crap any day of the week.

sorry guys and gals i totally forgot about this thread till i saw it pop back up. and so i have something to add based on something i saw someone here say. i totally had to boycott this series of american idol after they completely rediculed some slightly overweight girl that could sing way better then a lot of the trash they let through that place. my jaw dropped, i turned it off cursing, totally unbelievable. who do they think they're catering too when such a high percentage of the 'states is statistically overweight and they kick a slightly overweight person off. thats like kicking a GIANT percentage of your audience base in the privates. man oh man that was a baaaaad call by them. stuff like that is just juvinile. the american idol doesn't have to be someone that is a model. if he was following that idea ruben would have never won. freaking HIPPOCRITS. and with that i leave a little link. take it with a grain of salt... no pun intended www.contactmusic.com/new/xmlfeed.nsf/mndwebpages/cowell%20blasts%20american %20idol%20winners edited link to keep the page format size right. so you might have to copy/paste it line for line if you're still interested, im not sure

I remember in the first series of American Idol, there was an overweight woman who was a great singer. She was passed over though (maybe in the audition stage) and Simon told her to lose some weight.
But who won series 2? I believe that was an overweight man.
Double-standard much?
