Man this was disappointing. I was a very big fan of family guy and this wasn't anything like it. Which would be fine if it was supposed to be different, but really Look at the characters, A dad with no common sense, a kind caring mom, a nerdy son, hippy daughter, and two weird characters that aren't that funny. When I saw the commercial for it I thought it would be great but no. But there were a couple of good moments (The purse snatching, and the Jack In The Box Man) I'm really hoping this gets better.

Yeah, I was pretty unimpressed also. Family Guy worked, I think, because the creators had to reign themselves in to get their feet in the network's door, but I knew from the first scene this that Fox had let Seth MacFarlane run wild. In my opinion, the show is too surreal to last more than a season or two. It also, at it's core, seems to be based around laughing at the Bush administration, and topical sitcoms also seem to have a habit of petering out early (ie: That's My Bush). There were moments of genius, though; the purse snatching was funny and I particularly liked the phone conversation between God and George Bush, but if this pilot was the best they could come up with, I won't be tuning in.

I'm not exactly fond of The Family Guy to begin with, so when you take out my favourite character (Stuey) and replace all the other ones with bland filler, yeah, that pretty much bit. But I gave it a chance.
I might watch a show or two once the series begins, but the early indication was: crap.

The pilot of Family Guy wasn't that great, so what makes you guys think the pilot for American Dad needs to be brilliant? The characters will get retooled (they already have--the son was more like Neil Goldman from Family Guy in the preview on the Family Guy Freakin' Sweet Collection DVD). I'd rather watch American Dad than a rerun of Futurama, so it was a winner in my book.
I really enjoyed a lot of the jokes, and the alien was absolutely hilarious (the Paul Lynde voice was perfect).
The fish wasn't given much to do (though the cut scene with the skier had me chuckling for an hour afterward), and the daughter just pissed me off. I think she'll get better once they run out of these political jokes they've been dying to do for four years and move the characters more towards the political center (like how when they got through the bodily functions on Third Rock from the Sun and the show got better). At least, she'd better get less annoying, or she'll find herself next to Jar Jar Binks on my animated hit list.

Stewey. I've never seen a "Stuey" spelling, but maybe there is one.

That's the Canadian spelling, Justin. Extra U's and a couple of superfluous S's.

Is it just me or does the house they live in look exactly like the outside of the Simpsons'^

I still wasn't impressed. There were some clever bits, but there were plenty of times where I knew I should be laughing out loud but could only manage a sympathy smirk. Of course, as I peruse other reviews around the internet, it seems the show has pretty well divided people as to whether or not it's any good at all. Maybe it's just not the show for me, but I'll keep watching for now and hope something clicks.
