Birthing room? Does that mean there'll be an extra person by the time you read this? Al That's what we call a teaser in the industry Yup, our baby boy has arrived, safe and sound. Look for a thread very soon elsewhere in the forum! (I was just waiting until I had time to upload a picture or two).

I love watching The Shield on DVD, so much easier to keep up with the series that way

I think my favourite tv show on DVD would be Futurama. I wasn't a huge fan of the show when it was initially on television, but I grew to love it on DVD. As an added bonus, there are commentaries on every single episode, which are almost more fun than the episodes themselves. I highly recommend Futurama all the way. I definitely second that. The Lost discs are good too, though I was so pumped to watch all the episodes that I didn't get a good look at many of the special features. Though I did learn that Matthew Fox is a photographer, and a pretty good one at that.

I only have a few TV sets because most of them are too pricy for me, but I'll second "The Muppet Show." A few episodes are not uncut, but what's there is definately hilarious. I just watched the Ethel Merman and Twiggy episodes a few days ago. "Moonlighting" is also recommended; I have the 1&2 season and third season sets and season four is due next month.

If only to support two amazing shows, I urge y'all to purchase Battlestar Galactica (the new one) and Firefly on DVD, if you haven't already.
You will not be disappointed.
I'd recommend Farscape too but I am not sure that has as much general appeal as the aforementioned two.
Oh and Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Angel are two equally awesome shows. Although, Season 4 onwards of Buffy needs a punch.

"There's something about you that's causing me to hug you! It's like I have no will of my own!"
Buffeeeeee!!!!
Plus you have to laugh at the way this show not only mostly doesn't exploit Sarah Michelle Geller's body (bar one or two shirts), but goes out of its way to keep getting David Boreanaz (Angel) half-naked and chained or tied to things. (In seasons 1-3, anyway.)

(In seasons 1-3, anyway.) You know, I hadn't noticed that at all, but now you come to mention it, you are damn right. I mean, Buffy/Angel was great because SMG/Charisma Carpenter/Alyson Hannigan were all attractive women who actually got to have decent characters. I mean, Cordelia actually grows as a person from Episode One of Buffy by her exit in Angel. I always thought that these ladies were all really hot (especially Faith), I never noticed Boreanaz was the show's eye candy Although, what's really funny is seeing Angel in series one where he looks like a reject from New Kids On The Block or Beverly Hills 90210 and then seeing him in series five of Angel, where he most definitely looks a wee bit older

The Sibs and I did enjoy contrasting Buffy and Faith: "Pale lipstick: good girl! Dark lipstick: bad girl! Talks like a rich California person: good girl! Talks like a lower-middle class person: bad girl! Frequent skirt-wearing: good girl! Always wears jeans or leather pants: bad girl!" and so on.
The change in David Boreanaz was pretty striking too, because I actually saw Angel before I saw the first seasons of Buffy. "Is that the same GUY???"

Buffy is my favorite television series of all time, including the later seasons (yes, I realize I'm in the minority on this one). The entire show was pretty amazing.
And, ya know, I never noticed that Boreanaz was the eye-candy, either. He sure was chained up a heckuva lot. My personal favorite eye candy on the show was Eliza Dushku, though, I have to admit.
Anyway, I bought the "Chosen Collection" which put all 7 seasons together in a single nifty package. It looks really nice on my shelf, plus I have hours and hours and hours of special features and humorous commentary yet to experience.

Totally agree with DTH on the "Battlestar Galactica" love. It's almost completely unique in TV sci-fi in its complete lack of any cartoon characters or storylines (much as I love "Farscape", the floaty fella got on my nerves after a bit)...in fact, not just TV sci-fi. Give me the choice between the mini-series of this or eps 1-3 of Star Wars, and I know what I'll pick. Magnificent, long stories, developing characters and amazing characterisation, brilliant from beginning to end with barely a weak episode (even if that one where Apollo has that prostitute girlfriend appears beamed in from another series). It's a remake which is superior to the original in every single way, and is probably my favourite TV show of the decade so far.
The DVDs are okay but the special features aren't much to write home about. Fingers crossed series 2 is packaged with more stuff. "Lost", on the other hand, has it sorted. Loads of goodness, and the shows themselves are amazing too- I remember telling everyone I knew to leave me alone for a week as I was doing the entire first series. Shame series 2 has been way hit-and-miss so far.

I think that DVD sets are such a blessing for drama or scifi shows. Those are much more conducive to watching in large chunks as a bigger story. Plus, it seems as if more and more shows are starting to swing in the direction of being less episodic and more serial (24, Lost, Prison Break, BSG), which TV producers used to fear that audiences would shy away from, but now are starting to wake up and realize that we can handle it.
I just finished my season one set of The Venture Bros. (ahh... great cartoony fun), and will probably be buying Arrested Development Season 3, Battlestar Galactica 2.5 and Lost Season 2 soon. I'm also going to be renting Doctor Who series one and Rome season one on Netflix.

I'm also going to be renting Doctor Who series one and Rome season one on Netflix. Gooooo JUSTIN POWER!!! I'm telling you, Doctor Who Series One (or season 27 for the geeky Whovians around) is great and has some of the best episode of the show ever (even if some of the others are a bit...meh). Series Two (or season 28) with David Tennant is better and worse: better because David Tennant makes a much better Doctor and has some simply amazing stories but worse because the stories don't quite hit the high that S1 does. If that makes sense. Anyway, rent it and let me know what you think!
