As many of you jive suckas knew already, Futurama was slated to return this year in the form of 4 made-for-DVD movies, which as far as we know is still the plan. BUT... actor Billy West, the voice of Fry, posted this the other day on his website:
And the other good news is that they're doing 26 new episodes of ''Futurama'' for TV and we're hammering out the deal now. The original plan was to have the DVD's first but that's no longer the case. I'm totally jammed dude.
Greetings from the year 3000! It still sucks!
Now, I'm not counting this as official till there's actual word from the studio, but if one of the primary voice actors is announcing it, sounds like there's a pretty good shot. I'm stoked not just because I love Futurama, but because it continues the precedent of getting cancelled Fox shows back on the air, reigniting that slim hope buried deep within me of someday seeing new episodes of The Critic, Wonderfalls, and Greg the Bunny. Score!

I heard about the DVDs, but the series... that would be marvelous. It was just one of the neatest shows, and the perfect counterpoint to Simpsons fans who moaned that their show had fallen into a rut.
I think we've entered an era where, like in film, TV's saying that all bets are off. Cable shows are far more popular than most network shows. TiVo. iTunes allows you to download and carry your shows around. DVD sets are influencing what shows get re-picked up. We just don't know any more.
I'd love to see Arrested Development or Firefly resurrected, but there's so much good TV out now that I'm not going to cry for the dead -- I have them on DVD.

Hmm... then again:
Guys, I'm sorry I gave inaccurate info on the cartoon. I was told on one end that the TV show was a go but DXC enlightened me (with a hammer) that this was not the case. I think there is a Futurama project as in DVD's but I apparently had bad info. But I do live to give good Futurama news to people. So I must've died or something.
All eyes on the skies,
Billy
At this point, I don't know what to think. Guess fans will just have to wait and see.

I could go either way about bringing back the show. As much as I loved Futurama, the quality (or lack therof) of the new Family Guy episodes makes me wary of resurrecting other shows, especially Futurama.
Then again, if they do bring back Futurama, it will make my heart happy, and I'll hope that Family Guy is an isolated incident.
