I got really sad about The OC about three episodes into the 2nd season, right around the time Marissa decided she was a lesbian. (Also, I hated the character of Marissa - perhaps because of the whole deciding to become a lesbian thing? - and thought Mischa Barton was terrible, so anything that focussed on her made me angry.) If my memory serves me right, the first season was extra long because they started in mid-summer, then it got popular so it finished at the same time as everything else. My theory was that they used up all the really good stories in the first season. Which makes the first season awesome, but made the rest of the show dead to me.

Never watched it. The show just seemed like 90210: Part Duex. I never really got into any of the teen drama shows unless they had a fantasy element like Buffy or Smallville. I guess shows based in "reality" never interested me since I live in, like you know, the real world.

part of the reason i'm so sad is that this fourth and final season really illustrated to us the love and care that goes into 'the oc' and also how incredibly entertaining the characters and stories can be when mischa barton is not involved except in conversational references.
the first season was awesome because the cast is amazing and they did a lot of fun stuff (NOT the oliver crap, though. lame.). the subsequent seasons much less so, though there was a lot of fun stuff along the way.
but taylor is SUCH a better character than marissa and the actress is so much more compelling and fun that i want to set myself on fire (briefly). i hope they get the 4th season dvd set out quick, because these 16 episodes have been some of the best television i have ever seen in my LIFE.

It's over already? Didn't this show just premiere? ha ha. I almost started watching it after I heard Marissa died. I remember kind of liking it at the beginning but was really put-off by how in love Ryan was with Marissa, so stopped watching it...she was so stupid.

Oliver! I COMPLETELY forgot about him, mercifully.
And I second hilasophy: why on earth was Ryan so worked up over Marissa? But Kyle, your saying that Taylor's way more likable is making me think I may just have to rent season four . . .

i think it comes out in may (season 4 dvds).
the character of taylor townsend, autumn reeser's performance as taylor, and her effect on ryan (making him much more outgoing and enjoyable) probably made season 4 the absolute best season across the board.
it's just funny because when taylor showed up in season 3 (the "evil" girl having an affair with the new evil dean) it was like "she's fun, but i hope she leaves soon." then she came back and they made her friendly with the main cast, and suddenly it's enough to make you wish she had been there from the start.
amazing!
the music is pretty cool, too.

i got my girlfriend up way too early for both of us, just so we could go straight to target for the limited edition version of 'the oc: season four' with target exclusive dvd included.
she may have been slightly mortified. well, she said she was, but she may have been kidding.
meanwhile: i can't wait to rewatch it! i've said it before and i'll say it again: if you EVER liked 'the oc' or thought you would, season four is definitely for you. sans marissa and with the ascension of taylor as the fourth component of the oc kids that always should have been, everything good and meaningful about 'the oc" (yes, there are such things) comes out.
hooray!
