Not fighting, it's just when something is so incredibly popular with so many but not you, it's often baffling and you really want to know why.

I hate it when Daddy and Daddy fight! That'd be disturbing if it weren't so damned funny. Having finished it now (and gone back to play some of the bonus maps, etc), I can agree that the already-budget price of $20 might be a wee bit high... but then, I got it as part of the Orange Box, so I more look at it as a freebie that came along with HL2Ep2 and Team Fortress 2 (as well as the incredibly funny Peggle Extreme... oh my word, that cracked me up). Maybe that makes it easier to cuddle and love. If you were to buy it on it's own, I'd hope for a $10-15 price tag, but I wouldn't truly complain about $20 for gameplay that novel.

I think it's a blessing in the form of urging game studios to let their developers experiment a bit more outside of the Franchise 2007 box.

Oh, definitely. Maybe EA could learn a lesson?

As a planned present to myself after finishing classes and finals, I bought myself a copy of The Witcher. Been jonesing for a single player RPG experience, and have heard some impressive things about its gameplay, namely the decisions you make and the myriad of consequences that follow.
I'm also planning a re-runthrough of KOTOR 1 and 2 early next year.

Y'know, I never beat KOTOR 2. I appreciated the light side/dark side companion character mechanics they used and liked what I saw of the plot, but, man, those people will yammer on about anything! Czerka takeovers, Gran trade disputes, the blah-de-blah-de-blah of the Force. I couldn't take it after a while. All I wanted to do was tear up the galaxy with a lightsaber instead I end up entrenched in philosophical debate. I really did (and do) want to finish it someday, but that game just used me up and threw me away.

Ever since Christmas, Lady Luck and I have been rocking out on Guitar Hero 3 every night. I think she may actually like it even more than I do. We tend to take turns, she'll play one show, then we'll switch bands and I'll do it. We're both pretty good on Easy, but I shudder to think about how hard the game must get at the higher difficulty levels.

Heh I peeked at "Hard" the other day... went scurrying back to Easy until I beat it. At least the "Easy" rating comes with the knowledge that GH3's "Easy" mode is tougher than 1 and 2's, according to reviews.

Zero Punctuation has this to say about Guitar Hero 3 and its difficulty (language warning... funny, but rude). I happen to agree. I can play GH2 on Expert, but I've still yet to beat GH3 on Hard. Eek!

I've now beaten Easy mode with 5 stars on everything except that damn Slayer song, which I'm convinced is literally impossible for anyone who isn't double-jointed to do. Got my first 5 star on Medium last night... thank you, Miss Murder.
I also beat the original Final Fantasy yesterday. It was satisfying, if only because it was so much harder than modern FF games; what they've gained in graphics and story, they've certainly sacrificed in challenge. (With the exception of the Omega Weapons and such... although the optional War Mech in FF1 was no cakewalk.) But yeah, it felt weird to be dying in the early stages of the game, and to have to level up a bunch before the final dungeon. Still, it was definitely fun in a retro way and you can see the innovation at work, although I missed the distinctive personalities and more involved storylines of later games. But hey, now I can say I've beaten FF I, V, VI, VII, VIII, IX, X, and X-2. Sweet!

Got my first 5 star on Medium last night... thank you, Miss Murder. That slayer song is defenitely the hardest song in the game. Even more so than "through the fire and the flames." I myself am playing Rock Band. Which is no fun to play by yourself.

I lucked out and found a copy of Ico (I've been passively looking for a while), and combined with a DS trade-in, got it for $3.
I can see what everyone was so excited about back then (2001), but by today's standards, whoof. The lack of proper camera control, the extremely repetitive combat with the shadows... it's ugly.
But the game's big hook, leading a largely helpless girl around by the hand while you try and find the path forward, is still surprisingly strong. And when you unlock a puzzle to bring her forward to the next step, there's a great feeling of accomplishment.
Too bad about the combat though...

I'm currently on a 'All games made past 2005 suck' spree and playing Unreal Tournament all over again. The first one. There are NO other Unreal Tournaments. All who say otherwise are heretics.
Also I miss Knights of the Old Republic, but 8 days out of my life is enough.
