Yeah, I was rather surprised myself. I looked through some Homeworld 2 FAQ's with all sorts of different strategies that didn't really work and decided to just go for broke and that seemed to work. Odd that after having to repeat so many earlier missions so many times that the last two I managed to complete in one go. Maybe that's what they count on, the player gets so frustrated that he/she will just charge in and attack everything and that's the way to win. Now I'm just trying to see if the multiplayer is worth having a look at.

Right now I'm splitting time between FFX-2 and FFV with the occasional NCAA FB 2004 mixed in for good measure.
X-2 is actually pretty good...has to be the fastest battle system ever...unfortunatly you could be getting your ass kicked and not even know it until you already lost someone.
One thing I find funny is how everyone panned FFII's growth system..yeah it's implementation was poor but it's one of the most realistic systems (you want to get better at something, you practice it)
I wish they would revise that with the job system...would be interesting. Plus I really wish they would bring back weapons and armor...I miss the customization factor.

In the past two weeks I've boughten/recieved the same amount of video games that I'd boughten in the previous two years I owned a PS2. That'd, uh, be three. Six in all.
Aaaanyway, the games I have now are Jak 2, Fatal Frame 2: Crimson Butterfly, and (finally) Final Fantasy X.
Jak 2 is cool, crosses the lines of platforms and all. Got your standard platform game, your mech, x-treme (tm), and a bunch of other ones. It's fun to play and all, but after a while if you can't beat certain parts, you can't advance on. So you gotta do the same thing oooover and ooooover sometimes. Definatly a controller thrower.
Fatal Frame 2 is the BEST GAME EVER! Survival Horror at it's scariest. Visually, it's incredible. The in-game effects are just as good as the cinematics. The cinematic cameras are a little confusing at first, but once you get past that it REALLY adds to the game. Basically in the game you and your twin sister get lost in the woods, and wind up in this creepy abandoned village. But it's not abandoned as you find out, everyone was killed as after a ritual went wrong. Your only weapon is an antique camera. And don't expect to run and jump and roll. Oh no, the fastest you move is a slow jaunt. Very slow. But it really helps add to the intensity once something fast jumps into your path. I would absolutely recomend this to anyone who loves survival horror games, and horror movie fans.
Final Fantasy I just started playing last night and somehow clocked in six hours (with a sleeping break of course) before I got game over first. It's not what I'd say to be the best game, or the hardest (Heck, I've played half the game with one hand. Literally). But it has an absolutely engrossing story. Love it.
I've still yet to beat ANY of these games, which is weird for me since usually I beat a game before I buy a new one (or even borrow, etc.) But I would definatly recommend any of these to anyone (well, maybe not Fatal Frame for the faint of heart, muah ha ha haaaa...)

I've just started playing a little PC diddy by the name of Gunlok. It can best be described as Diablo/Darkstone, with robots, and more strategy. Not mindblowing by any means, but still pretty neato.
Unlike other pointy-clicky CRPGs, the action in Gunlok takes place on multiple levels, the coolness of which is actually a bit dwarfed by the irritation factor. Catwalks and other bits of higher-level scenery tend to get in the way of your view.
Speaking of view, the camera tends to do weird things that make me want to hit it.
Another aspect of Gunlok that makes me feel all warm and toasty is that, judging by certain language in the documentation, and the fact that I've never heard of it before now, (It was released back in 2000.) it seems to have originally been a UK-only game. That makes it more special somehow.
Perhaps you're wondering how I came by it? I'm going to tell you regardless, so you might as well say yes.
You see, in my town, there's an outlet mall. In that outlet mall, there's a toy store. In that toy store, there's A HUMAN HEAD!!
Er...this game, I mean. Outlet malls are great for getting all sorts of weird stuff you'll never find in self-respecting stores.

I'm trying desparately to procure a copy of Prince of Persia from a local store that's doing a special offer. You buy POP, you get Splinter Cell for free. The problem is, they've got lots of Splinter Cell, they've been sold out of POP for a week, and they are mysteriously innefficient at predicting when the next shipment might arrive. And they won't do rainchecks. Urgh.
So right now, I'm effectively playing nothing. Although that's probably for the best, considering I should be spending the next three weeks doing nothing but reading my script. Damned responsibility.

Good Luck! Right now, I am lost in my regular online gaming, I do rarely play single player games for last three years. But may be kotor can change that Battlefield 1942. Having a nice clan helps to lighten up my spirits , especially when you haven't lost a single match Half life mod: Natural Selection Day of Defeat, sometimes. just gave up playing Jedi Academy. it was beginning to be too frustrating. Call of Duty: A night of grenade spamming is really enough.. I don't play it anymore. Lastly, Planetside 7-day trial. It killed my life for that week, so nomore massive planetary battles for me edit: you can get a copy from online stores, with that exact deal and probably cheaper.. PoP: SoD + splinter cell. for any platform. now I sounded just like an advertisement.. By the way, ToEE had great turn based fights (superb depth, loved the tactical and diverse style of play), and I just loved the way how the fireball decimated hordes of monsters, I was disappointed with it at old Baldur's Gate days.

Just curious: what's frustrating about Jedi Academy?

I mainly played duels from the release of jedi knight 2, and I considered myself a good dueller. the thing is, after playing JA for a month, I was beginning to get extremely upset after losing a duel, and that's just not right. after playing a video game, if you are seriously considering punching your monitor to death ... something is wrong then.
by the way, the JA community is mainly composed of teens who use l33t speak and it gets really annoying after a night of having that.
playing games for fun, and having fun = good playing games for fun, but actually getting pretty upset= baaaaad.

Ohhh... see, I mostly played the single player, and tried the multi later. No l33t t33n5 at all. But yeah, I can see why that might tucker you out.

I quite unexpectedly ended up with a Gamecube at the end of this christmas, so I'm currently wading my way through the past two years of GC titles. I finally got to beat Eternal Darkness and Rouge Squadron II, and now I've been fighting my way through Viewtiful Joe (definitely worth checking out for those looking for something a little different) and the Ocarina of Time in the special Zelda disc that came with the system. It will have taken me six years and countless hours on other people's systems, but I *will* beat this game! Then I can move onto Majora's Mask and finally the Wind Waker just in time for my systems to become horribly out of date again.
Al -also just bought the Scarface soundtrack so I can drive around pretending I'm in GTA. Well, GTA minus the crimewave.

Heh, one of the funniest (and most frequently made) typos in videogaming today. "Rouge" Squadron, and it's sequels, Lipstick Raiders and Mascara Wars. You've got a heaping helping of good videogames there, Al (I too loved Viewtiful Joe for the rarity it is). I would also suggest for you, as a newbie Cubie: Pikmin Metroid Prime Legend of Zelda: Wind Waker On my end, I finally managed to track down that Ubisoft 2 for 1 offer, and got Prince of Persia and Splinter Cell for the price of just POP, and I had $20 off with a Christmas gift card on top of that, so ultra-cheap, ultra-fun gaming awaits me (after the play, that is). I couldn't help popping in POP (heh), and to be blunt, it does indeed rawk. The combat is sluggish, but it's so worth it to see these massive, 3D puzzles that need to be completed by one of the most agile characters you'll ever play with in a game. Hell yeah, can't wait till I have some free time.

He even has a Pikmin tattoo on his left buttock. Quite sporting.

Does anyone here play DDR? My brother just got one of those for Christmas and is trying to be a pro at it. It is such an addictive little game.

DDR? You mean like Dance Dance Revolution? I've played it a few times. But I really, really suck at it. I think it's due to my complete lack of rhythm.
If you want to see some pros at that game. Just about everyone I've seen out here in Japan is really good at it. I've seen people rack up nothing but perfects on every song. Although it is kinda funny to see some Japanese business men dancing to pop music. Also out here that have a lot of games like DDR. The ones I've seen have a guitar, drums, turn tables, maracas, bongos, tambourine. The drums is the coolest one. And it's amazing to watch people play it.
*edit* Oops, forgot to post what I was playing. I recently got FFX-2. It's pretty good. Haven't been playing long. Bit too much of the "Girl Power" going on though. Not that I have anything against girls who kick ass. This game just takes it a little to far. Honestly, do we really need them to do the "Charlie's Angels" poses?
