Have a sit down by the fireplace, whilst I regale you with my tales of yore.... I think one of the things I liked best about the arcade glory days of the late 80s/early 90s, was that arcade machines were positively everywhere, so you'd wind up running into them in the weirdest places. I distinctly remember finding a Magic Sword cabinet in a KOA laundry room. Come to think of it, that may have been the highlight of my life so far. I also liked how one could enter any arcade, and immediately be greeted by the distinctive "deedeedloo" of Galaga, regardless of whether or not a Galaga cabinet was actually present. Spooky.

Many, many years ago, my father was working on building a store (Zales, I think) in a mall somewhere way out of town one summer, and my mother and I went to hang out for a while, kinda like a vacation or something. What I remember best about this is that this particular mall had an arcade. And in this arcade was the Alien 3 shooter game. The one with the kickass pulse rifle life-sized and at your disposal. I spent many a quarter on this machine, and promptly never ran into it again.
Actually, I think this was the same mall that a shady man in a trenchcoat called me into an empty access hallway and asked me if I was into "Dueling". I said I didn't know what that was, and he responded that all the cool kids were into it, here try it for free, then you have to pay for the cards. And thus, a clinical addiction to Magic: The Gathering began. Didn't get over it until 1999.

Maybe this isn't my fondest memory, but it was memorable anyway... We used to have an arcade in our small town, which for some reason or another had a jail cell motif... the place was broken down into several rooms, and some of the walls between the rooms had small windows, with bars in between. I remember having a killer game of Zaxxon going, when the town bully reached through the bars and grabbed me. I'm not even 100% sure why it happened (it was 20 years ago), but I think it had something to do with him thinking that I was dating one of the druggie chicks (which I wasn't). Oh well, just another event in my childhood that shaped me into the person I am now Oh, and this arcade also gave out quarters for each "A" you had on your report card. I remember going in there with my 4th quater report card once, and getting $5 from them, to play in the arcade. It's no wonder the arcade went under soon after...

I remember playing this during lunch break (imagine several engineers sitting in the cafeteria, and the looks we got). Well, we were using 20-sided dice to keep track of our mana, and one of our non-MTG coworkers walked into the cafeteria, started to chat with us, and proceeded to pick up one of the dice and started to play with it. Oh, the reaction she got, by doing that! Oh, and I've been MTG free since 2000... although I do still have a large portion of my collection. Ask Lissa about the boxes we've got in the basement right now...

Wow, I already did this in another topic without realizing this was here. Just go to "Finish this sentance."
Also, oddly enough, i'm trying to get back into magic. Remember those Necro decks of the mid-90's? Now the big deck is the affinity deck, where you can get out crazily powerful creatures if you have enough artifacts out for very little manna.
Pretty cool, huh?
Oh, and slivers rock!
