I wanted to hear what y'all think is some memorable video game music, specifically from the classic atari/NES eighties era. And here's the reason:
The radio station I work at does Friday Night Eighties every (you guessed it!) Friday night. I want to do something pretty sweet for the show and I came up with this idea of using video game music for talk beds. These talk beds are what we use to talk over whenever we do our talk breaks (to kind of keep the momentum of the show going forward, and whatnot). So, I'm in the market for some ideas, and specifically I'm looking for:
1. Stuff from the eighties (since, you know, it's the friday night EIGHTIES), though going into the very early ninties is probably just fine with me. 2. Stuff that is pretty fast and very upbeat (the crystal theme from Final Fantasy, no matter how great, need not apply). Plus, the more synth sounding, the better! 3. Be it readily recognizable or totally obscure, it's all good. I'm not really looking for people to listen and be like, "Hey, that's CASTLEVANIA! ROCK OUT!!!", I just thought it would be a nice departure from the rest of our regular programming that maybe a handful of our listeners may get. As long as it goes with the rest of the criteria.
I'm already working on doing a little remix of the Super Mario theme, the underground from Super Mario 3 (which is really just a beaty version of Super Mario 1's underground), and the Flashman stage music from Megaman 2.
So, discuss amongst yourselves. I know there are some very knowledgeable folk on this board (jeez, with all the nintendo I played in the eighties, I should be pretty knowledgeable myself), and your suggestions are highly appreciated. And thanks in advance for your suggestions!

You should check out The Minibosses. You can download a couple of samples from their site, pretty nifty. I'll see what else I can come up with. The Flashman stage, though, is a GREAT idea.

Woodman's theme from MM2. And if you use Metalman's theme as well, it will make my avatar feel nice. Also, the Bionic March from Bionic Commando. It'll make me feel a whole lot better if you'll renounce the evil of MIDI, and pick up a mildly illegal audio emulator here. That way, your sound samples will be honest-to-goodness true blue cheetos accurate.

Hucklebubba, that idea is pure awesomeness. Another Scooby Snack for you!!!
Yeah, it looks like a LOT of Megaman 2 is going to be involved with my project. Of course, I remember thinking the music was pure awesome back when I was like 12, whereas I don't even remember the music for most of the other games I played.
Thanks a ton for the suggestions, and keep 'em coming if you got 'em!

Ah! I'm going to put it in my Scooby Snack account and live off the interest. I'm also going to suggest you use the first level music from Contra, and maybe the "stage clear" and title fanfares as well.
By the way, I can't guarantee that the audio emulators I suggested earlier aren't packed to the gills with spy bugs and Trojans. (Of course, the same could be said of all freeware.) Just a helpful caution from your friendly neighborhood Paranoid Man!

Shenmue for the Dreamcast had an absolutely amazing score, if it was a movie, I swear it would've won an oscar.
And yes, I have a Dreamcast - RIP

As far as what would work for your show (that I can remember off the top of my head): Main theme for Mega Man 3 First stage music from SMB 2 First stage music from Batman for the NES The Moon Surface theme from Ducktales
Some other favourites that might be outside your parameters: Aerith's Theme from FF7, especially the solo piano version Pretty much anything from Streets of Rage (1 or 2) The opening theme from Secret of Mana

I've shared it with many people who have never even heard of the game, or even played it for that matter, and who love it so much they've listened to it multiple times! You can probably find a playlist on Youtube or something. I'd say that out of the about 60 or so tracks, around 20 are REALLY GREAT.
