Has anyone else gotten the chance to check out this acid trip of a game?

It's... tempting. I think I won't bother, judging from the movies I've seen, but I'll give them credit for creating something extremely interesting.

Penny Arcade wrote up a nice piece on it and at exactly what point does a video game become 'art'? The game itself is extremely compelling: sometimes because of the characters, who are outlandish, pretentious, and intriguingly esoteric (yet seem to fit without a hitch into the rest of the game), and sometimes because the game refuses to slow down and let you in on what the Holy Ghost is going on. Of course, the deliberately unfolding mystery is intended as part of the overall appeal, but it is, without argument, a tough piece to wrap your head around. It's Twin Peaksiness plus the obvious anime influence plus what I'll politely call a 'unique' control scheme can certainly put people off. Overall, a tough game to recommend for purchase to the general public (not that I regret owning mine), but it's certainly worth a rental. At least then there will be a better chance of understanding what on earth I'm talking about.
