Holy CRAP. Get a load of this. I'm utterly speechless. Nintendo sure loves to do things different. What do the gamers present think?

I thought they learned from that non ergonomic brick that we had to play NES games from before the NES MAX controller came out. Those hurt your hands like CRAZY playing the game for more then an hour or two. Although the Gameboy SP didn't bug me at all. That thing looks like a little torture device to me. I'm not gunna be getting Nintendo Rev for quite a while. Or at least until whatever birthday or x-mas is close to it if we can afford it.

It looks like they're trying to combine the old-school Nintendo controller with a DVD remote. That was the first thing that struck me, how it looks like a remote control.

My thoughts exactly.

I agree too. But I think that's a little of what Nintendo wants. They've been branded "kiddie" for a couple of generations now, having something that looks like a DVD remote might be their idea of what "adult" should look like.
What I AM interested in is how very different from the current crop the next gen of Nintendo games could be, if THIS is the controller peripheral they go with (I notice they point out that although this is close to the final design, it's not necessarily the final version). Having a completely position-sensitive controller actually is quite revolutionary. I wonder if it'll actually work in a market so saturated by me-too gaming.

If it were anyone but the big N, I would point and laugh and until they slunk away in humiliation. I trust Nintendo. I mean, the simplicity of it is a little offputting, but I actually really like the photo with the analog attachment. Plus: flip it sideways? NES time! The folks at Game Informer got to sit down and try it out hands on and, after a slight period of adjustment, they all thought it worked really well and really naturally. I guess we'll see.
EDIT: Also--have you *seen* th PS3 controller? There is a point-and-laugh worthy contrpation.

Sorta share with yall a lil conversation and some thinkin I did today. Some people see the tons of Nintendo stuff (namely gameboys) as like a cash cow they keep milking ya know. Cuz they know that people'll always buy the next gameboy or whatever. Well I see it as a way where like, everyone can have the kind of Gameboy they want ya know. Cuz I think everyone has their own favorite Gameboy.... since there is so many different ones now. Gameboy (the old brick one) Gameboy Pocket (small silvery one) Gameboy Color (small colorey one) Gameboy Advance (horizontal one) Gameboy Advance SP (flip one) Gameboy Advance DS (two screens) Gameboy Micro (streamlined little advance) There's also two different gameboy players, one for the Super Nintendo that supported everything up through Gameboy Color, and another one for the Gamecube that supported everything through Advance. So I mean I guess, Nintendo does have some problems ya know, but you gotta look at both sides, some see the glass half full, some see it half empty, thats just the way it is I guess.

I honestly think Nintendo's shooting themselves in the foot (yet again). The Gamecube controller was a very nice, if kiddy-looking, piece of hardware that was easy to pick up and use if you're used to another system. This... this stinks of bad marketing advice.
Nintendo seems to have a constant love of innovation and weirdness -- things I applaud, yet things which are also sinking the company as it's not been able to convert or even retain most of its fan base to these new ideas. My feeling is that the big N could've had the street cred to pull off a controller like this... in 1994... but nowadays, with the company so far behind and lacking in comparison with the other two players, it's just not the right time to be attempting something like this. Sure, it could be the hail mary they need, but in all probability, it'll finish the company's presence in the console market.

Yea, in this instance, they need to pull out their dev team that creates the awesome ergonomic controllers and just blast away the competition that way. The 64 and the Gamecube both had incredible controllers. And just for a little refresher... 64 controller and Gamecube controller

VG Cats has sounded off about all the new systems, but mostly on the Nintendo. (somewhat dirty content, consider thyself warned)

I took another look at the new controller(s) for the new nintendo thingamajig and I still don't like it. Yea they're pushing the envelope and all that stuff but..... you go too wacked out and it stops being a console at least what we old farts consider a console I guess. But I guess as long as I can download and play Solar Jetman on it I'll hush up though.
