i've always been on the fence regarding buying a ps2. amazing games, a controller i don't really like, combined with my penchant for gaming non-stop for days and then not touching any console for months . . . never seemed worth it.
but now i'm enjoying playing my gamecube every so often, i'm dying for the ds lite to hit america with super-brite screens!!!!!!, and i'm thinking that it might be fun to play metal gear solid 3: subsistence (only $30!) even though playing the gamecube remake of mgs: twin snakes often made me tear out my hair.
mostly, though, i enjoy kingdom hearts: chain of memories on game boy, and i just read that among the returning voices for kh2, bruce boxleitner returns as tron. oh man!
so, i may have to go buy a ps2, kh2 (and kh1; is it worth it?), and mgs3: subsistence.
unless anyone has any warnings or concerns for me. although any advice of waiting for the ps3 will fall on deaf ears, since i'm not enough of a game enthusiast to drop more than $300 (my friend is convinced it'll be at least $500) on a console; blu-ray be darned. but any other concerns i'll welcome hearing!

Dude, KH1 = totally worth it. Awesome game. I'll let Sue's spawn weigh in too, but that one's a definite. 2 looks great, and MGS3... well, I haven't played it just yet, but I'll let you know after I beat Silent Hill 4.
Anyway, if you can get a decent deal on it, totally. Beats an X-Box, that's for sure.

The one that's supposed to be $500 to $800 when it comes out? Naw, upgrade your PC.

Hey, not a problem, since there's a handy dandy ad at the top of this very page that promises a new PS3 simply for clicking on it!
I suspect it will squirt out of my PC's frontside USB port in liquid metal form, and then gradually coalesce into useable shape. I'd better unplug the Sidewinder first.

bruce voices tron, which supposedly streets tomorrow EVERYWHERE (although the girl at target warned me they may not get it until thursday).
anyway, i went out in the rain and bought a ps2, mgs3:subsistence, and gta:san andreas.
what are some other must-own games for the ps2? i definitely want a silent hill or two, and i liked playing god of war when i crashed at my friend's, but beyond that: i just don't know! what are the big ones?

Silent Hill 2 is the best, definitely, but 3 is great too... you should definitely get both of those. (I'm playing through 4 right now... pretty good, but I'm not liking it quite as much as the others.) Uh... dunno, were you an old-school gamer, Kyle? I loved the Mega Man Anniversary Collection (Mega Man 1-8 on one PS2 disc), but if you didn't play them back in the day, not much point. And yeah, the first KH is a must.

yeah! i got the mega man anniversay collection for gamecube, and i can dig it! plus, i just read (thank goodness for light research) that timed for the release of the 'silent hill' film they're going to release all three ps2 silent hill games in one box.
and that's REAL ultimate power!!!!!!!!!

I just shared the Silent Hill 2 love in a myspace message to you, but I'll reiterate it here - it's great.
If they are releasing them all in one box in time for the movie, well hell, it might be worth waiting for that.

I also heard a rumor -- and it's JUST a rumor as far as I know, at least for now -- that they're considering remaking the first SH to feature the "Rose" character from the movie, rather than the original hero, Harry. Which, come to think of it, means they'd have to slightly alter SH3 too, since it ties into the first game.

i never gave an update: i think the 'silent hill' game collection was only released overseas, but via used game sections and an odd price markdown at best buy, i got the last three ps2 silent hill games (2-4) for less than what a compilation would have cost.
and, obviously, i also bought a ps2. it's awesome! what was i thinking?
does anyone know if the 'resident evil 4' for ps2 is "better" or "an improved version of" the gamecube version? i LOVE the gamecube version (even if i was stuck on the falling rooms bit near the very end of the game the last time i was playing it) but if the ps2 version is updated and special, i'll check it out!
