...and lo and behold, came across my old Super Nintendo. As a surprise and sort of an early Father's Day present (the whole shed clean-up was her idea of a gift to me so I have somewhere to do artsy-fartsy things and stay out of her way in the house) she brought it in for me to rediscover.
I last played the blasted thing in '96, and it's been in a box since I moved to Florida that same year, and it was dirty. Dirty as in disgusting bug crap all over it because we have monster-sized palmetto roaches in Florida that live and crap where they please and you are powerless to stop them. So I cleaned up the outside with some rubbing alchohol, and then gave my controllers and cartridges the same treatment. Then I plugged in Super Mario World to see if it would still work.
Not only did it work, it still had MY OLD SAVE GAMES. TEN FLIPPIN' YEARS LATER. Kickin' rad.
The only games that were packed with it were Super Mario World, Starfox, and Street Fighter II. I'm pretty sure I have Super Metroid stashed somewhere and I know I have (had) more games that that so I may find them one day. The only thing I know for sure is that I lent out my copy of Final Fantasy III back in '97/'98 and I'm pretty sure I won't see that one ever again.
Anyway, my daughter and I have been enjoying Super Mario World and Starfox, which she calls "Animals riding in Spaceships Game," immensly. I won't let her play Street Fighter II. Because she's 2 1/2 years old.
So, any one out there with tales of rediscovered gaming gems from the storage shed? I'd love to hear them.

I just have to say that mentioning that you keep video games in your shed makes me think of the end of Shaun of the Dead.
That is all.

My wife and I go on a weekly Saturday garage sale shopping spree, mostly to find stuff for eBay. I've been enjoying it for sort of the same reason -- finding geeky memorabilia from the past, including numerous gaming systems and even the exact same sticker album type I used in the 3rd grade. Today we found a trove of Choose Your Own Adventure books, and I was in heaven.

Today I found a fisher price video camera with a mini black and white t.v and guess what... It doesn't work. I only spent like 2 bucks though so it's all good.

There's websites devoted to those Fisher Price video cameras, you know. People do arthouse films on em as they've got this cool grainy look- you can get em repaired for not too much money.
Commodore 64. Not the original, as I have a small flat and nowhere to store one, but emulated on the PC. Loving "Zolyx" and "Mercenary". Those were definitely the days.
