Yep. This is me shamelessly using this forum to talk about modding, because people on mod-related forums are so sick of hearing "omg how do i make new meshes" and "how do i get the game womin nakid" that they treat all requests for help like letters from the IRS.
Is anyone modding for Oblivion? Heck, is anybody modding for anything? Failing that, what mods do you use? This being for pc gamers, of course, though I understand Xbox users can get the mostly - lame official mods.
I'm making a shop mod for Oblivion with some retextured and remapped armor, Dremora npcs, and one npc who is asleep 90% of the time for the convenience of vampire characters. I've discovered an interesting bug wherein my sister's character suddenly became a vampire at the end of the "Through a Nightmare, Darkly" quest, and apparently can't be cured, so I'm now afraid to release the mod for fear other people might encounter the same problem. I've also discovered that my lovely voices we spent so much time recording only work in the CS. For some reason the mp3 files work fine on media player, but won't play ingame. Grrr.
If anyone has any suggestions, I'm open to them. (Checked the details list, and also the voice file paths are correct.) Otherwise, fire away.

Oh well. It was worth a try. Dern the dern consoles. At least I finished my mod. The vampire thing turned out not to be caused by my mod, but by my sister's PC having contracted porphyric hemophilia without noticing it (I know, I know, it happens to everyone). Here's my screenshot gallery: www.imagebeaver.com/view.php?mode=gallery&g=32378

I'm sorry Shalen, I really wish I could contribute something more constructive, its just that I know NOTHING about modding (except like the basics). The closest I ever got to do anything with this sort of thing was for the Vampire: The Masquerade - Redemption computer game. I mean, the roleplaying elements were all there, just not in the published storyline My brother and got really in to it and had this whole mod we were working on. It kind of fell to pieces when my bro just got sick of the Radiant toolset (the prog used to do all the graphics etc - also used for Quake III). It was rubbish! Simply not user friendly and awkward :s Add to that the fact that my (American) modder friend whom was helping us, moved with her family to Pittsburgh and that was the last I ever heard from her. Shame. The Vampire game was crud but had a lot of potential. and the graphics were awesome!

Simply not user friendly and awkward :s Shame. The Vampire game was crud but had a lot of potential. and the graphics were awesome! Oblivion uses Radiant AI for its non-player characters. Same thing, I wonder? It CAN be confusing in the Elder Scrolls Construction Set, so I can't imagine how a whole set based on Radiant would be. Oblivion itself could use more content to go with its graphics. Morrowind was a far larger and more interesting world in many ways. Consequently, more than a few people want Morrowind content in Oblivion. The copyright stuff between Bethesda, Havok (responsible for ingame physics) and presumably Radiant results in immediate forum shutdown of anyone who mentions it on even semi-official threads, and threats to sue anyone who actually does it. Not to mention the obtuseness of the Oblivion .nif format for import/export into graphics programs(I use Blender), and the fact that nobody has cracked the animations yet. Last night I spent hours weight painting only to discover the vertex groups wouldn't export, just for one example. (I'm thinking I named them wrong.) And then someone gets on some forum and bitches about modders not coming up with new content fast enough... Grrrr.
