Everyone--and by "everyone" I mean "hopefully not just me"--has that one game which they feel is just so life-alteringly awesome that they simply must proselytize everyone they meet into playing it, to the point of actually being kind of hostile and creepy.
For me, that game is Lucasarts' Outlaws. At first glance, it appears to be nothing more than a visually-unimpressive Doom-clone with a Wild West motif. However, upon closer inspection, one notices that. . .that's actually exactly what it is.
But there's nothing wrong with that. It's a solidly-built game, fun to play, and features one of the best soundtracks ever composed. If you are a fan of Ennio Morricone spaghetti western scores, Clint Bajakian is your new master.
Another big selling point for me is the animated cut-scenes, which hit the quality scale right around, "Not as bad as Hanna-Barbera, but still worse than good." It's their very cheesiness that makes them so likable.
I'm going to declare this game a cult classic based on the fact that it's hokey and the perception that not many people know about it.
So, anyone else have any games that they recommend with threatening, Crusader-like zeal?

I have a couple of them: Grim Fandango, Day of the Tentacle, The Longest Journey, Fallout 1&2, Starcraft.

Grim Fandango, Day of the Tentacle I'll second those two. Pretty much anything Tim Schaffer-related, really, including his upcoming Brutal Legend which looks absolutely sick. Beyond Good + Evil is one I tend to tout pretty heavily, too, and Gunstar Heroes. Oh, and A Link to the Past, but that probably doesn't fall into this category 'cause, well, isn't everyone?

Well if you're a Tim Schaffer fan and you haven't checked out Psychonauts... then shame on you. Double shame.

Psychonauts is a must-play. That game is a friggin trip. Honorable mention goes to Guilty Gears X-2. That game is the WEIRDEST acid-trip of a fighting game I have ever played.

I was severely hooked on Final Fantasy VII and Spyro the Dragon...then I moved out of the house that had the Playstation.
Was very into Morrowind and various versions of the Sims as well.
Alas...no more. Meh.

I'm really, really obnoxious about Final Fantasy VI, especially in relation to VII. And the thing is that I like FF VII... I've beaten it, I enjoyed it, thought it was lots of fun. But I sincerely do believe that VI had a deeper, more in-depth (and comprehensible) storyline with far better realized characters. And yet, because it was 2D with 16-bit graphics, it's virtually unknown to modern fans, while VII gets countless movie sequels, game spinoffs, action figures, etc. Like I said, nothing against VII, it was great; but VI was at least as amazing, and it did it with lesser graphics. As a result, I'm pretty obnoxious about it. Apologies to anyone who's had to listen to me rant.

Drew, you're making me regret that I already pledged this month's alotted gender-shifting makeout session to Oogie. Furthermore, you need to read this: Kefka vs. Sephiroth

Partially it's because of the teeny tiny screen on the Micro (which makes overland map travel almost impossible), and partially it's due to the overexcessive random battles every two steps. I did like the story as far as I got, but... maybe you really had to play this back in the day. I think we're so spoiled now, considering all the advances in gameplay and RPGs.

Sorry to hear you haven't enjoyed it more, J. I didn't remember an excessive number of random battles, but it's been years since I last played it. Where did you get in the game?
