beware...bewaaaaaaaaaaaaaaare...i mean, *cough* haven't you always wanted a mon-KEY? I have to laugh any time the line with the word Llama comes up. I was playing Scattegories with Lissa's family, and we were playing using the letter "L". One of the topics was farm animals, and i had suggested llamas. They wouldn't let me count it. So, on the next day, and the day after, and so on, any chance that has come up which I could use to reinforce my argument that llamas are farm animals, I've done so. And, I always crack up at that line, when Lissa and I happen to be listening to "If I had 1,000,000"... because I'm sure she probably knows what I'm thinking about We now return you to your regularly scheduled thread.

Paul Westerberg - Waiting for Somebody (this is the Singles song)
Simple Plan - I'd do Anything

Oh, and if you've never listened to Thor before (look ma! I just made something rhyme... sort of), I higly suggest you listen to his song "Keep The Dogs Away". Also, watch the movie, FUBAR. Both Thor and FUBAR make me extremely proud be Canadian.

i had suggested llamas. They wouldn't let me count it. My uncle has llamas on his farm. In fact, it's a llama farm. That's as definitive as you need to get. It's supposedly a pretty lucrative business.

I knew I was right! ;D Actually, I was sure that was the case, before we played the game. Somewhere along the way, I had heard that llamas were kept on sheep farms, to keep the wolves or coyotes away. But, telling that to Lissa and her folks didn't help my argument, because they thought I was just making that up as well. But now I'll just tell them that I have it on authority, from PoolMan...

Actually you're absolutely right. Llamas are often used as a coyote deterrent in flocks of sheep. So are donkeys, ponies, horses and certain breeds of dogs. Llamas probably wouldn't be much use against wolves, but coyotes are a lot smaller. There are people out here who use them in their flocks.

Weighing in on the llama issue- back in college, some friends and I were driving into the nearest town to visit the mall, and I happened to glance out the window to my right. (Not being the one driving at the time, you understand.) And there, what should I see but- a llama. In the back of a van. Not a horse carrier, or even one of those special animal transport vans... just a van with the back seats removed. I swear, it was the most surreal thing I'd ever seen. They pulled away from us soon after, but not before I'd drawn my friends' attention to it, leaving all of us to wonder- well, who transports llamas in vans in the middle of busy highways in central Ohio, anyway? But there ARE a lot of farms around that area... -D

Which begs the question, "Would the llamas think that they're sheep, if they're fully immersed in sheep culture?" Kinda like those stories where you hear about boys being raised with wolves...

Drew, that IS surreal... good thing your friends had the opportunity to see it as well, wonder if they'd believe you if they hadn't...

I might be able to go one better here. My ex used to transport holstein (those are the pretty black and white spotted ones to the uninitiated) calves in his Ford Festiva. I think the max he could take was three. And a Border Collie.

Well no, I don't think they'd lose their innate... uhm... llamaness. Great Pyranese puppies are often raised with lambs but still grow up with the instinct to inflict a major Acme on any coyote in the vicinity. Wile E. or not.

He said llamas were farm animals. As ANYONE in my family can tell you, I cheat, and I cheat to win. (although I'm not nearly as good at it as my sister is!) Do you REALLY think I would EVER admit that llamas were a farm animal if I didn't have to?

These songs always seem to brighten my day when I'm feeling like homeless man with no wine, all sad and depressed. Or a heartbroken Samus without mocha. Llamas...definitly farm animals. Does anyone remember the Llama Dome from Sim City 2000?

I can see clearly now (sang by multiple singers/groups) This is a perfect song for times when the holiday has started and all your friends are away and you're bored. ;D
