I can't say that I have a favourite genre of music, but if you can call 'feel-good' music a genre, that would be it. I'd say the best band that does feel-good songs are ABBA or Jackson 5.
Anyway, what're your favourite 'feel-good' songs?
Aint No Mountain High Enough - Marvin Gaye My Sharona - The Knack (my fave on this mix!) 500 miles - the proclaimers Kung Fu Fighting - Carl Douglas Dancing Queen - ABBA Friday I'm in Love - The Cure I'm Still Standing - Elton John I want you Back/Love You Save - Jackson 5 Come What May - Moulin Rouge Homie's Girl - Carl Henry Baby I love your Way - Peter Frampton Rapper's Delight - Sugar Hill Gang Like Glue - Sean Paul Back in Black - ACDC Are You Gonna Be My Girl - The Jets Ticket to Ride/Obla Di - Beatles Chumbawumba - tubthumper Outkast - Hey ya Baby got Back - Sir Mix-a-lot
And of course, punjabi music is like all feel-good songs ;D

*I'm still standing, better than I ever did, lookin' like a real survivor, feelin' like a little kid* Too Low For Zero, right? I've got that record but it's scratched up pretty badly.
They Might Be Giants is a very cheerful pick-me-up band, even the song that starts with that line from Allen Ginsberg's Howl... "I saw the best minds of my generation destroyed by madness, starving hysterical"... I wish I could remember the name of it. Van Morrison's "Brown-Eyed Girl" The Clash's "I'm Not Down" Billy Joel's "It's Still Rock and Roll To Me" Most of The Donnas' repertoire.
(OOOH, I remember the name now: "I Should Be Allowed To Think." Hurrah! The lyrics are depressing, but it's so bouncy and fun to sing.)

*Pride (In the Name of Love)---U2 *Sweet Home Alabama---Lynyrd Skynyrd
*Blitzkrieg Bop---The Ramones (pretty much anything by them cheers me up, even Teenage Lobotomy:)
*Staying Alive----BeeGees (try not dancing that one or doing the hustle)
*God Only Knows---The Beach Boys *Bohemian Like You---The Dandy Warhols *What Would Brian Boitano Do---South Park
And Finally...anything upbeat by Elton John (Bennie and the Jets, Crocodile Rock, Saturday Nights' All Right For Fighting etc...)
*In the Street---Big Star (You know, the theme song to That 70's Show was originally done by Big Star but covered by another band for the show....great song)
*Stay Up Late---The Talking Heads (Such a cute song...who hasn't used babies for free entertainment when bored late at night?)
*Wrong Way---Sublime (I know..their potheads, but this band really infuses rap/rock/and reggae in a good way suprisingly)

Some great songs listed, but you guys have neglected to list the undisputed king of all feel-good songs: It's The End Of The World As We Know It (And I Feel Fine) by REfriggin'M If your blood doesn't start pumpin' and you don't get the overpowering urge to crank up the radio and (try to) sing along when that one comes on -- even if you're in the back seat of a police car -- you're clinically dead. -D, also sending out votes for Crazy Game of Poker by O.A.R., Flagpole Sitta by Harvey Danger, and Semi-Charmed Life by Third Eye Blind...

...sad that the only words of that song that I know (besides the chorus) are LEONARD BERNSTEIN!... (spelling?) No, you spelled it right. Supposedly, the part that goes "Leonard Bernstein, Leonid Breshnev, Lenny Bruce and Lester Bangs..." comes from a dream that Michael Stipe claims he had, where he was invited to a party at which everyone but him had the initials "L.B." Take it with a grain of salt, but there it is. (And though it's sad, yes, I do know all of the words to that song. Too bad no karaoke machines carry it, I could make a fortune in bar bets on karaoke night...) -D

So is The Offspring's "Come Out and Play."
I was listening to Smash in the car with my friends a few days ago, dancing in the back seat and singing the only party I know ("come out and play!"), and it wasn't until I downloaded yesterday that I realized: it's a song about inner-city kids carrying guns and aping gang fights.
i'm so ashamed...
