Ah... back on track. 6k more to go. Closing in on the climax, I'm trying to tie together as many of the hanging plot threads I left all over the place. I'm excited to know that it'll be over soon -- it's hard to remember what life was like way back in October there.

Question: do you guys have a hard time writing *just* for yourself? I mean, I try to do that, but there's always a lurking voice in my head that makes me want to write something to be published, for others to read, etc. And I think that's a wrong way of writing something this big. So late to this discussion. But yes. I'm not a writer, as my incredibly unwielding prose can attest. But I am a knitter, and I design patterns. Or, I would. The problem lies in wanting to design for the big leagues, even though there are plenty of indie designers who are hugely famous. It's hard, to put so much work into something without knowing that there's going to be any tangible reward, beyond the "yes, I did it!" feeling, the kind that lies behind things like NaNoWriMo. This may not be understandable if you don't knit/craft, but I think it's the same feeling.

Good job reaching 50k, Sue! Alright, so instead of typing 15,000 words this weekend as I had planned, I've managed to add 10,000 words to my piece of rubbish. Not bad at all, even though I still have more writing to do. 5,000 words left. I'm going to be so happy when I finish.

I know you two are going to get it done! Honestly, if I hadn't gotten sucked into that word count challenge last weekend, we'd all be on pace with each other to finish on time. Considering that something like 80% of the people who sign up don't even come close to finishing - I'd say the MRFH crew is well ahead of the curve. I'll be waving pom-poms until you guys finish. So get a move on before my arms get too tired.

Done. 50,001 words. Wow.
I can't believe it's over. I plowed through 4,000 words today, excited to be near the end, and I found out that I wasn't quite as ready to stop as I thought.
I mean, I got to the actual end of the story at 49,000 words, and had to pad the other 1,000 into a prologue and other descriptive paragraphs, but I don't feel as mentally drained from this as I thought I would be.
I retitled my book "Bug Juice". I'm quite happy with the story, although I'm going to certainly be doing some major revisions and editing in the future.
Thanks guys for your support, and woo-hoo to Sue and Oogie for writing alongside of me!

Way to go, Justin! EXCELLENT!!!!
Now all we need is OogieBoogie to hit the finish line and MRFH will have 100% winners from participants. How cool is that? ;D
I've basically decided to rework my project into 3rd person, flesh out two or three of the background characters and probably market my book as a... a... uhm... romance novel.
If it sells, I will never, ever live this down.

Brad looked at Julie, his chest muscles unconsciously rippling in the anticipation of the moment. His virility nearly stunned him with how perfect he was.
She stared back, breathless, her tongue suddenly swollen with the awe of their meeting.
"Welcome to Starbucks," Julie said. "May I take your order?"
"I'd like a Vente Latte," Brad said, putting his shirt back on. "Decaf."

And bringing up the rear is ME, with 50,010 words! *celebrates with some air guitar* I haven't finished my ending yet. There isn't much point in doing so, since the first half of my novel is lost in space, and I have no intention of rewriting it all. That said, I'm fairly pleased with what I wrote. I didn't have the best time maintaining continuity, and I'm still not wild about the overall premise I cooked up, but considering this was my first serious attempt at writing something longer than a short story, I give it a thumbs up. It definitely showed me just how much and how well (I'm so modest) I could write, even when I felt like all hope was lost. I'm definitely going to write more, maybe as soon as next month, during the holiday break. I have some gooood ideas. It's over! I'm still waiting for that to sink in. Once it does, I'm sure no one will be able to stop me from giggling.

Awesome, Oogie, congrats! I think you had the toughest go out of us three, and you stuck it out. Says a lot about you.

WE RULE! Congratulations Oogie!!!! Justin is absolutely right. Your perserverence, especially when you lost so much of your story, was really impressive. Excellent job! (Just don't let Justin take you to Starbucks to celebrate!)

I'm definitely going to write more, maybe as soon as next month, during the holiday break. Just felt I should follow up on this bit of my last post here. I completed what I guess is the first chapter of my latest work only a few moments ago. I felt a small creative rush, and I'm hoping I can keep it going. I think I'm onto something good with this one. Just wondering, Justin and Sue: I know you two are busy with a grocery list of stuff, but have either of you started revising your NaNoWriMo novels yet?

I've been letting it sit, as the holidays and other job-related projects have surged, but I do want to work on adding/revising it to about 50 more pages. I have a lot of ideas, and want to clean up some of the plot that I had to rush.
I'm also waiting for friends and family members to read it and let me know if it sucks or not... so far, only one friend has finished it. Not a good sign, eh?
