In college, I had a buddy who was from Hibbing, MN (Bob Dylan's hometown, quite a bit north of Duluth). He was one of those guys who is unintentionally funny. One night in the dining hall, he started out a conversation with . . .
"I was a hard-core curler for a couple years."
He continued, saying that in Hibbing there was this "washed-out curler" (the mere idea of a "washed-out curler" makes me laugh) who felt it was his life's mission to teach curling to young kids. Uh-oh, I said "kids" in reference to teenagers. I did learn that sweeping the ice makes the stones go faster and farther, as it melts the ice. For some reason, I always thought they swept to slow down the stones.
Anyway, I thought I should share that.
Oh, and if you want to see Leslie Neilson in another non-slapstick, watch The Forbidden Planet.
