Another great review, keep up the good work. I felt pretty much the same way about the movie as you did. The climax was extremely disappointing and the plot was pretty basic, but the three leads (Ron Perlman, Niles, and Selma Blair) kicked buttocks, so they redeemed those flaws about 90% of the way.
Still better than Daredevil, though.

Can anyone shed a little more light on this "missing" 45 seconds? I don't quite understand how 45 seconds of pitch black with no sound explains the capture of the heroes after they nuke the Sammeal demons.
Just curious.

This is just from memory, so I could be wrong, but I don't think it's just 45 seconds of blackness- it's that there was a brief scene after the blackness that showed you Hellboy and Meyers had survived, but since a lot of theaters changed reels when the blackness started, you didn't see that scene. I can't say for sure, though, as my theater left it in.

Just read Kyle's addition to the Hellboy review page... I really love when Kyle reviews comic book movies. Suddenly the review's three pages of coherent thoughts and the Shift key works.

Yet the exclamation marks remain!
