Okay, you may indeed need to regrown your beard just so you can stroke it while puffing your pipe for this review, Drew, but THIS line:
...absolutely made my day. That's hilarious.
Way to go, Shiny Shins!

I love references to obscure SNL sketches. ;D

If you're going to talk about subliminal stuff in Alien: Resurrection, you ought to at least mention the whole hawk/bunny vibe between Ripley and Call. Or maybe that's too overt to attract a Freudian's attention.

Well, I'll say this. My chosen major in college (art history - YAY!) instilled in me a certain... need to hear and read about over-analyzed stuff. I just love it. And that's why Drew's review is so totally awesome.
So, did your class discuss H.R. Giger's alien design at all? Especially how the alien's head seems to be a giant phallus?

Don't misread this as bashing any intelligent analysis or view, but there does get to be a point where one gets far too into the dissection that the thing as a whole ceases to be enjoyable as a whole. I saw this a lot in my English classes, and also in my film classes -- which ruined a number of perfectly fine movies for me. Maybe my head works a bit different than most, but sometimes I'm quite content to see the forest and the cigar for what it is, and not what symbolic reference or allegory or archtype it might be.
Again, not bashing.
Just a thought.

Okay, you may indeed need to regrown your beard Ironically, since last you saw me, I've actually grown it back out (this time with full mustache goatee, not just chin fuzzies), then shaved it so Lady Luck can decide if the wedding pictures would look better with or without, and am now in the process of regrowing it AGAIN. *sigh* A man's work is never done... And Justin raises a valid point about overanalyzing bodies of work. You'd get along great with Lady Luck in that respect, J. -D

So what was the decision, then... you're going to have a beard at the wedding?

Personally, I think you look better with the goatee. It makes you look more your age.
And that's what I always thought about Shakespeare- overanalyzed. I mean, the guy wrote Romeo and Juliet to pay off a bar tab. My guess is he put so much death and melodrama in it because tragedy and sex sells. No bigger reason.

Personally, I think you look better with the goatee. It makes you look more your age. You know, that's really true- I generally only get carded when I'm clean shaven, not with the goatee. But no, Poolie, a final verdict has not been reached yet; we're both carefully pondering this weighty issue, then will convene to discuss it at the appropriate time. The U.N. may get involved, as necessary. And that's what I always thought about Shakespeare- overanalyzed. I mean, the guy wrote Romeo and Juliet to pay off a bar tab. My guess is he put so much death and melodrama in it because tragedy and sex sells. No bigger reason. Well, that plus he made that deal with Morpheus to unlock the talent waiting in his mind, in exchange for writing two plays for Morpheus- A Midsummer Night's Dream, and The Tempest. -D
