Hey Drew (HEY DROOOOOOOOOOOO!), I just wanted to pass on my commendations on your Batman Begins/Year One article. That was a really cool read, great analysis. I'm proud of you, buddy!
Now I'm all itching to do one for V for Vendetta ...

Between this and a seventeen page review of Silent Hill, the boy's been bus-y. Great job, DROO.

Thank you so much for pointing out that Batman let Ra's die. That really took the wind out of my sails the first time I saw it and knocked my opinion of the movie from 'wow! that was amazing!' to 'meh, it was pretty good.' Susequent viewings have gone a long way towards redeeming the movie as a whole, but that still gnaws at me when I watch it. Your thoroughness... thoroughsity... erm...nitpicking was much appreciated.

Between this and a seventeen page review of Silent Hill, the boy's been bus-y. Yeah, I'm... not so great at that whole "self-editing" thing. Meh... in a review like the SH one, who needs brevity? Every word is gold! (And I'd better be busy now- Lady Luck's got some crazy rules about how we're taking a honeymoon to spend time together, not write movie reviews, so a week and a half from now, I'm off the clock for a week. Woo-freakin'-hoo!) And thanks for the praise, everyone! -D

Great article Drew, I've never really been into reading comics so it's really cool to hear about the origins of the movie. But I must say that I am quite curious about why film makers always seem determined to make Batman an everyday superhero by having him kill the villains, I agree that that is the one thing that sets him apart and in every film they seem hellbent on changing it... ah well, just a little question I've always wondered about.

Don't you mean: MRFH: Where the Word 'Editor' Doesn't Even Enter Into the Conservation? Conserve our dwindling global supply of editors by using them as infrequently as possible!

"MRFH: Where the Word 'Editor' Doesn't Even Enter Into the Conversation" Don't you mean: MRFH: Where the Word 'Editor' Doesn't Even Enter Into the Conservation? Took me a second, but damn, that's funny. Getting back on topic, I think the problem with Bats NOT killing villains in the movies has to do with continuity. If you're going to make a sequel (which most of the big franchises have done or will do), how do you explain away a villain who isn't dead? At the very least, they have to be properly incapacitated... the state of the Riddler at the end of whichever crappy Batman movie he was in at least achieved a villain's fate that took him out of the picture for future movies. But Drew's still essentially correct... tough to write them screenplays, I guess.

Especially since no one EVER breaks into or out of Arkham Asylum.

If you're going to make a sequel (which most of the big franchises have done or will do), how do you explain away a villain who isn't dead? Isn't that what jail is for? Or Arkham Asylum? I dunno, how do you explain away all the two-bit mobsters that Batman didn't kill, why they're not back for the sequel? I guess I don't get why it would be any different for movies than it is in comics, tv shows, etc... what is it about movies that necessitates villains get killed off instead of just locked away? -D

I know nuzzin' about comic books, really (except for Neil Gaiman's Sandman), but I found it really interesting too.
