Nice review, but what a shame. I was really looking forward to a Desperation movie (it'd been in development hell for years), and am sorry to hear it's not worth my time. But very funny nonetheless.

I enjoyed the book very much... will still be interested in seeing it, but Shalen might well be on the money, considering King's other books-to-TV series.

Does the book have Cynthia and Steve and the Random Orgasm Statue? Because "they suck really hard" is not something I usually hear about Stephen King books...

You know, it's been awhile since I read Regulators/Desperation, so I can't answer that for sure. I know that there were statues, but from experience, I can say that King's prose tends to be more internal than external, which never translates well.
In other words, what is scary on paper != scary on film.

Does the book have Cynthia and Steve and the Random Orgasm Statue? Because "they suck really hard" is not something I usually hear about Stephen King books... Yes, sort of. Not knowing exactly what made into onto the screen, I can tell you that the book has them taking the statue in the truck with them. It grabs hold of them briefly and it brings out the basest and most depraved sexual thoughts. There's an extensive fantasy sequence about rough sex amidst squirming masses of insects, snakes, spiders, and scorpions. I want to say it turns into a murder fantasy too, but I could be wrong on that point. It's pretty perverse. And to think, I know a girl who dated his son. Creepy. Al

EXCELLENT use of Boolean operands, J. Bravo. You get 23 kudos. I read that as "fantastically equal" or "equal with added zest." As though there were many subtle levels of equal, of which this was one of the top. No?

Quite the opposite, Bubba. The symbol '!=' can be read as 'equals not' or 'does not equal'. It's used in typed text because the more commonly used symbol (an = with a slash through it) is not easily accessible via keyboard.
And now you know!
