In what alternate universe are people still allowed to go "the book is better"? You know what... I think Citizen Kane: the book was better too. And Gone with the Wind. And Planet of the Apes. And The Godfather. And... oh, let's just save time with this : every book on the planet is better than the movie made from it. But, here's a little tip for ya... Books are not movies. What do you think? Pretty catchy, huh? It's got a good beat and you can dance to it.
To be fair - I'll say - this is not about you. But you're contributing to the glut of people comparing movies to books. I just don't see it.

well, keep in mind that generally when you're exposed to a story, the medium you first encounter it in is probably (not always, 'course, but usually) going to be the one you prefer.
so i had read 'uzumaki' in the manga format, liked it, tracked down the film and liked it well enough, but the book/manga with its unlimited visual budget and larger scope was a lot more memorable and exciting.
i tried to read 'the godfather' in novel form and didn't think much of it, but oh my gosh is the movie great! for the most part, though, adapting most stuff from one medium to another is going to be "pretty tough." movie novelizations are seldom as cool as the movie itself.

I really liked Uzumaki the first time I saw it. And it was because I really responded to the characters. And the visual aspect of the movie was awesome. Now, maybe most people who see this are crazy about the manga / comic book first. I really don't care. Again, to be fair, I've never really been a comic book person. But film is not just for "film" people, everyone responds to it. So that's why I felt the movie was very heartfelt, interesting, visually arresting, fun, creepy, unsettling, and the CGI wasn't bad either.
And any of these qualities about any movie, take the 'horror' out and switch genres for non-horror films, and people just won't stop whining about their precious books being turned into movies. I just can't stand those people. I'll never turn into one of those people - you can guarantee it.
