So, last Tuesday morning, the wife and I decide to flee our home in Fort Walton Beach, Florida thanks to the oncoming category 4 wrath of Hurricane Ivan. We go to Orlando to hang with my in-laws, hang out for a few days, and I go back home to assess the damage on Saturday. Our house did just fine, lost a few shingles from the roof, and thats it.
A whole heck of a lot of other people that I know did not fare nearly as well as I did. Specifically, Navarre and Navarre Beach in Florida is pretty much devistated, as well as Pensacola, Pensacola Beach, and Perdido Key. I have people here at work whose houses are not where they left them. It's pretty humbling.
So, luckily I have electricity AND air conditioning AND internet here at work. I have none of these things at my house. So I hang out here and at the mall (which is mostly open, also) a lot.
Anyone else experience the fury of Ivan? Or Frances? Or Charley? I might be able to get some pictures up here of boats parked in peoples backyards and the like up the road from me. Later.
Keep these poor fools who live in the Sunny State of Florida in your prayers. Just about the whole state is a mess right now.

Hey dude,
We're thinking of you. I'm glad you were spared the largest wrath, but I still feel for you and those around you. I'll definitely keep you in my thoughts.

Hey, there's no trying to reason with hurricane season. To horribly paraphrase Jimmy Buffett.
It's tough for you guys, and I'm thinking of those affected constantly.

I'm very glad to hear you're okay and that you've got someplace to find relief from the heat! I'm up in the tornado zone, but I can't begin to imagine what you folks are going through.
Stay safe. We're pulling for you.

I'm up in the tornado zone, but I can't begin to imagine what you folks are going through. Ya know, that's the funny thing about the United States. It seems that no matter where you go, there's always some sort of natural disaster waiting to screw up your life. In California, you got earthquakes and forest fires. In the midwest you get tornadoes. In New England, you get blizzards. In North Carolina (where I'm originally from), you get more freakin' Hurricanes!!! You know, the only good thing about hurricanes is that you get a little bit of warning, as long as you keep up with the Weather Channel. Oh, and don't worry about me too much. According to reports, I think I got power restored back at the house! Woot! I won't know 'till I'm off of work though. Plus, since my wife is still in Orlando, it will be like the Awesomest Vacation Ever! Just kidding though, I really miss her.

Yo, we've been catching the rainy/windy aftermath of the storms up here, so I can't imagine what you're dealing with. My friends and I have gone to Pensacola beach for Spring Break the past 2 years as well, so I know what you're talking about. God bless ya, dude.

"Hurricane Ivan: The Awesomest Vacation Ever!" I went ahead and took the liberty of adding that to my sig. Cool?

Hahaha... cool. It's my aim in life to appear on every one of you guys' sig lines before I die. The fact that I got Clare's so quickly was just a bonus.
Although Justin's bumblebee in space will be hard to top.

I'm glad you mentioned that because now, whenever I want to be petty and spiteful for no reason, I can just continue to deny you a spot in my sig file. Muahahaha!
Of course that kinda backfires when I don't want to be petty and spiteful.

Of course that kinda backfires when I don't want to be petty and spiteful. If it makes you feel any better, I don't think that's very often. Oh, I kid. I KID! Because I love!

I'll just have to grin and bear it when the issue comes up every six or seven months. Gotta protect my investment in spitefullness, you know.

It's times like these when I'm glad I live in a Geodesic dome. Not that they offer any protection, they're just really fun to live in.

Having a population of over 16 million in a swamp with an average elevation of only 100 feet above sea level that is surrounded on 3 sides by hurricane-prone waters is just asking for trouble.

Has anyone seen or heard anything about any of those domes or round houses people build to spite hurricanes? How'd they hold up?
