Favorite part of the whole thing, right there. Great review, Al. And bravo for showing some Captain Blood love in the recommendations.

Thanks. I noticed that same framework in Matrix: Revolutions, too.
And I'm a huge Erroll Flynn fan (the movie star part, not the brawling, raping, recklessly hedonistic part), so most pirate-centric conversations in my life tend to involve the phrase, "So, you liked that? Well did you see Captain Blood? Now, there's a pirate movie for ya!"
EDIT: another quick note: also not into the fascist sympathizer/Nazi spy part of Erroll Flynn. So, it's basically just the movies. I thought I should clarify.

haha- I LOVE Captain Blood, and I note it has yet to be reviewed.... Great AWE review, Al! I definitely feel you when you say that it kind of just grew on you. I left the theater thinking "meh, pretty good... entertaining... better than DMC, at least!" but now the more I think about it, the more that I like it.

More trivia: the flags of Christopher Moody and Edward Low, real historical pirates, are flown during the scene where the various pirate ships hoist their colors. Sadly Teach's was not among them, nor any of the others with hearts on them (a not uncommon motif). I think there were other historical ones in the film too, but I was too slow to catch them on first viewing. Other pirate flags: www.kipar.org/piratical-resources/pirate-flags.html

I thought I should clarify. Didn't he murder (or was "suspected" of murdering) a woman or two? ..... Boy that Captain Blood sure is an excellent pirate movie! Yeah, when I first saw AWE I wasn't sure how I felt about it, but the more I think about the movie, the more I like it. Which was a thought I meant to convey during my first post, but obviously forgot to actually put in. Oops!

Whoops, it appears I neglected to mention that I really liked your review, Al. Good job!
