Kudos to everybody for the reviews and articles we've seen so far; we're only halfway through, but I'm impressed by the quality of everything. Special props to Justin for the highly informative Buffy retrospective... very nice primer, guy.

I've enjoyed everything so far. While Justin's feature may have been all "informative" and stuff (that guy is so uppity that way), really Drew's offering is, so far, my favorite for entertainment value.
And truly, isn't that what's important?
Good job on the theme week, everyone!

This is why I love doing the site: I've been getting the updates out the night before, because it's also VBS week at our church and I've had to be there early every day.
So this morning, I wake up, check my e-mail real quick and there's Kyle with an out-of-the-blue article. "Is it too late?" he asks. "Is it ever?" I groan.
So. Heh. Fun times.

I'll just add my two cents and say Well Done! to my fellow MRFHites. I've never had reserved seating on the Whedon bandwagon, but the articles and reviews this week have been nothing short of superb.

Really enjoyed both Kyle and Lissa's contributions, today. As someone who isn't super familiar with Whedon's work aside from random Buffy and Angel episodes, I appreciate that you all are doing some really cool features this week that aren't strictly reviews of his work. Everything this week has made me a lot more interested in his stuff, actually. So keep up the good work, everyone!

Just FYI, Whedon Week was Lissa's brainchild -- so you have her to thank for getting this process rolling!

Yeah... speaking of Lissa. I've got a minor bone to pick with you, missy. You go to the trouble of writing an extremely smart, insightful, eloquent article that mentions some of Whedon's forebears in terms of strong female characters like Star Wars and Pern... and yet fail to give props to arguably THE biggest influence on Whedon in that category, Mr. Chris "I write so many strong women it's become my stereotype" Claremont? I mean, does anyone believe Buffy and co. would have existed without characters like Storm, Jean Grey, Kitty Pryde, Rogue, Dani Moonstar, Magik, Psylocke, etc. blazing a trail first? For shame, Lissa... for shame. -D

Not all of us have the entire cast of the X-Men staring down from our shelves to remind us, sir But it is a fair point. And thanks! And I have to admit, Whedon Week isn't even really my brainchild- Duckie suggested it to me, and then I suggested it to everyone else. It got changed from his original suggestion, which was to review movies that Whedon actors had been in (with the name From Whedon to Widescreen) to incorporate more Whedon and fewer really lame movies. So blame/thank him

I have to add that I really enjoyed Lissa's article too. It encompassed both what I love so much in Whedon's work and what I myself believe, so you got me on both counts. Plus, you counted Titan AE! I always liked that movie, and I never knew until about 6 months ago that it was Joss (and also Ben Edlund, who I know wrote at least few eps of Firefly). I also liked Justin's overview of Buffy. Your characterization of Glory as a lacking villain made me think about it, and I guess she's symbolic of why season 5 is weak as a whole compared to, say, season 3. I really liked Glory in her scenes, but I never wanted to see more, and the way the Ben/Glory dynamic was revealed as well as the rules governing it felt sloppy and ill-defined. Similarly, the two Dawn reveals bookending the season - who she was and how to save her - felt equally ill-defined. She's the Key, but she's a ball of energy, and you've got to kill her to end the world but you have to kill her to save the world . . . Season 3 had an arc even greater with the change in Faith and the Mayor's plans, but they were always clearly defined if not explained to the viewer at the time. It really made me think about why I liked season 3 so much more than season 5, even though season 5 seems good when you look at it logically. Interesting villain, plus "The Body." Nothing can match "The Body." But season 3 has 2 or 3 great stand alone episodes (especially "Band Candy", a personal fave as well as making sense as a whole. Well, now I just want to watch seaon 3 again.

I've never been a Whedon follower...I've only seen one episode of Buffy in my life (and yes, it was the musical episode) and had never gotten onboard with any of his projects...
...until Firefly. Even if I never see another bit of Whedon-touched anything ever again, he will have a special place in my heart just for creating this show.
Loved, loved, loved the 10 Firefly moments...and I am giving a huge thumbs up to #1, "Hero of Canton"...the song aside, just the reaction of the crew in that instance is perfect.
And the song...well, let's just say you haven't lived until you're with 20 of your friends and about 50 other patrons in the back room of a pub in Lisdoonvarna, Ireland, hoisting beer and singing "Hero of Canton" at the top of your lungs.
Okay, gushing over. But great work on that and some nice insight into those "other" Whedon shows. :-)
