Wow. It's been a long time since a review has made me want to see a movie I'd never heard of before. Good show Al, good show! This is the kind of thing that I like to see on the site. It covers the themes of the movie, the characters and the dramatic points and background without spoiling the experience. If you'll excuse me now, I have to head to my local video store.

I was kinda on the fence about Black Snake Moan, but now I'm definitely going to rent it. Great review.
Also, "Bye, Bye, Bye, punk!" too funny!

Phenomenal review Al. I felt the exact same way about the movie. Kudos to you.

Excellent review. It really made me want to see the movie. Everything I'd heard about it before was much more "Christina Ricci chained to a radiator! woo hoo!" which is more than a little creepy.

Thanks guys! My brother raved about this for months after he saw it in theaters and I really fell in love with it too when the DVD came out. It's certainly a different sort of movie, but really well done and unfortunately mismarketed into oblivion.
And I don't think I ever found a place to mention it in the review (and I'm too lazy to check), but Justin Timberlake is *excellent*. Who knew?

And I don't think I ever found a place to mention it in the review (and I'm too lazy to check), but Justin Timberlake is *excellent*. Who knew? My respect for his acting ability went up several notches when I saw him host Saturday Night Live (both times). He's an excellent host. He's got a good sense of comedic timing, throws himself into each sketch, and unlike a lot of current hosts, never plays himself. I'm no fangirl, but was pleasantly surprised to see he could act.

Sorry for the bump, but, as I hopeless English geek, I just got all sorts of excited to learn that this movie is based (loosely) on Silas Marner. Neat!
