Kinda surprised there hasn't been more talk about this. Of course, the Superman movies weren't exactly cult, but they certainly were influential on a whole lot of kids growing up around that time. I was too young to see them in the theaters, but I definitely appreciate the way they proved you really COULD do a good comic-to-movie adaptation. The special effects may be dated, but the performances more than hold up today, and it's a rare thing when a movie lives up to its hype- you will believe a man can fly. And then in the wake of his accident- I think most people would have given up right there and allowed themselves to fade into obscurity. Instead, Reeve used his disability to raise public awareness and funding for scientific advances, and never, ever gave up hope that he would walk again. That speaks of the strongest kind of willpower, very much like that exemplified by... well, you know who. I don't tend to get maudlin when celebrities die and I don't want to turn him into a demigod- he was a man, just like any, and I'm sure he had his faults. But he certainly set an example for the rest of us to live up to. Goodbye, Christopher Reeve. Thanks for being an inspiration, both on and off the screen. -D

Couldn't have said it any better, Drew. It's amazing to see how some people excel in light of what would break others. That he went as a result of a bedsore is just too stupid to believe, but what a great amount of work he accomplished before that.

i never liked his movies personally even when i was that age. they just seemed i guess too adult for me ya know. i dont think i really respected him that much as an actor until i saw them in this broadway show movie that i was glued too until the closing credits. i think ima get all his superman movies on dvd then watch them again and see if i like them now that im grown up'n stuff. im sorry hes gone though. it was just as much of a shock as when john ritter passed. u know its strange. it seemed like there was a giant gap in time when we lost no actors at an early age. there was like elvis and marilyn monroe and i dunno. all the sudden we're losin more actors cut down way before their time and it sucks!!!!!!! fare thee well chris. i will miss thee.
